LOL...before you joined, I was a member too! :-)

I probably had moved away from NYC, by the time you were a member.

Yet both her husbands were geniuses - one in the writing field, the other an actor. Perhaps that is what the attraction was because neither of them were particularly good-looking although Steiger in his youth wasn’t too bad.

I still remember nervously eating at Longchamps before mid-term exams at Finch and as an extreme youth of 16 years, before meeting with the president of Finch, hoping to get accepted!

I loved The Young Republicans. Now I need The Alter Kocker Republicans.

Steiger was charismatic ( and one hell of an actor! ), but I never thought that he was attractive in any way, at any age.

I used to like eating at Longchamps, with my mother for lunch. They had Nesslerode Pie, which my father and I loved and which NOBODY has served since the early '60s; sadly! :-(

The Young Republicans was pretty Conservative, especially for NYC, when I was a member and yes, the other members were a VERY nice lot; back then!

LOL, now, I too would need something called the Alter Kocker GOPers!

Nesslerode Pie

wow, I looked it up, it looks terrific.

I had never heard of it.

Bring some with you when you come...

There was one member of the Young Republicans who had a telephone voice message praying that abortion could be eliminated in her lifetime. Undoubtedly sneered upon perhaps even by some freepers but brought a tear to my eye when I once left a message for that dear soul. Unfortunately, I lost touch with her while keeping in touch with some awful people, lol! Story of my life.

Steiger was a brilliant actor. I still treasure his Oscar-winning performance as the none-too-bright sheriff in The Heat of the Night.

It’s MARVELOUS and I’d love to have it again, but NOBODY makes/sells it anymore and I’ve never made one. It’s something that most people only ate in a restaurant, long ago. Something else that hasn’t existed for over 50 years, is Charlotte Russe, which a lot of bakeries used to sell in NYC. Look that one up too. :-)

The whole hedge fund story was a lie. No investment desk was selling to Epstein, no investment desk was buying from Epstein. He only had back room (clerical) employees

Chilling, but...I think you're onto something, there:

He could have taken the whole mountain of filthy lucre, dumped it into an ETF, then beaten most of the legit funds out there, then rebuffed all client requests for more info.

Then he would have taken his free time and devoted it all to more scouting, bringing in new amazing girls, and roping in new rich victims at parties intro'd to him by his celebrity friends.

Then he'd sometimes cut "philanthrophist checks" to research causes he pretended to be fascinated by, the better to generate magazine and WSJ puff pieces about him and raise more investor interest, resulting in a self-sustaining positive feedback loop.

He was a pervvy/blackmail-y Wizard of Oz --take no notice of the man behind the curtain.

The YRs were a great group, once upon a time and something that almost NOBODY here as ever heard of and who believe that there never were any GOPers, let alone REAL Conservatives in NYC...because they are biased, prejudiced, and dumb.

Totally agree! They will ignore what we write and in the very next post write that New Yorkers are all a bunch of commies. That we two are commies.

They were a great group and I hope they are still going strong. Fine people.

Yes, Steiger was BRILLIANT and I have enjoyed watching him in so many different films and portraying so many different types of roles! Look how different he was in THE ILLUSTRATED MAN, NO WAY TO TREAT A LADY, ON THE WATERFRONT,THE PAWNBROKER ( what a weird & scary film that is! ),and far too many more to name.

Charlotte Russe was always on display when Bloomingdale’s had a most wonderful bakery. I never bought it because in those days I didn’t eat many sweets or give parties but I still remember its beauty inside the counter. It was a very sad day when they did away with all their prepared foods.

My mom used to buy cat tongues (Langue du chat?) at Bloomingdale’s. Remember those simple French cookies? I’m getting all Proustian with this...

Oh, yes! And watch him play a white Russian in Dr. Zhivago! And then turn around and play a Mississippi lawman. This, from a typical urban Jew of the mid 20th century! What talent those Jews brought to America.

I have never heard of the pie, although roasted chestnuts were part of my life as a child. mmmmmm

Charlotte Russe was a special dessert that we had a couple of times. Yum. Ladyfingers and cream, what could go wrong??

YUP..!

“Well if you are being blackmailed, you can’t really explain why you are paying millions of dollars to some guy who shows up out of nowhere, and the guy who shows up out of nowhere can’t explain why he’s suddenly being paid huge sums.

So instead of paying him hush money you give him money to manage for you, and then he takes his management fee typical for hedge funds.

He figures this scheme out and then learns who the marks are”

GUESS where Esptein got the List Of Marks..?

From Les Wexner, his old mentor genius who started Abercrombie & Fitch, Victoria Secret, The Limited, Guess Jeans, etc. the older guy who sheparded Epstein into the darker reaches of their shared hobby.

The other day CrazyDaysAndNights dot net stated that Wexner found himself finally married up to a woman he found he no longer loved; it was via Wexner's relationship with his younger, more virile pervvy friend that Wexner met and began a long affair with a younger woman who reinvigorated Wexner, gave his long life new meaning.

So Wexner was grateful to Epstein and sold Epstein his Manhatten residence --the biggest private residence on Manhatten Island-- for the grand sum of ONE DOLLAR.

Yes, a then $66M piece of real estate for the price of a candy bar.

Wexner is much older, had longstanding contacts in the billionaire community and in the smaller clutch of wealthy people with purient interests not easily satisfied:

Hair-twirling, giggly p*ssy wearing braces and bobby socks, selling girl scout cookies in front of the grocery store. Or, more darkly, Cub Scout boy butt p*ssy.

In the course of his girl fashion biz, Wexner had many years to casually learn who was like him. In order to monetize his knowledge and help his younger friend, Wexner turned that data over to his younger ambitious darkly-hobbied friend. Wexner already had a client list in his head, he simply had to hand it over to his friend.

Maybe Wexner even got a cut of the action..? Dunno, probably not. Plus, foreign goverments or the Mega Group would also be interested, if they needed sudden favors for intel ops pronto, no questions asked; moving money around, opening accounts, etc.

Epstein’s “genius investing talent” is simply his management of a deeply average investment fund populated by deep-pocketed people who permitted themselves to be ensnared in his trap. Epstein might even have dumped all the money into a simple ETF instead of picking each investment issue himself, saving tons of time.

I wasn't a big sweets eater when I was growing up, but there was something about Charlotte Russe that really appealed to me.As a grownup I do like other Russes too, especially the apple one.

Proust was a Madeline fanatic. Unlike cat's tongues, Madelines looks a bit like a seashell and is ribbed.

Langues du chat, which are a bit different ( long and narrow with a bit of a bulbous end on each side) are yummy and something akin to Madelines, in that both are what I would call "butter cookies".

Bloomies used to have a lovely pastry shop; so did Macy's.

Agree on ALL points! :-)

Have you ever seen NO WAY TO TREAT A LADY? If not, you should. I haven't seen it in decades ( I wish TCM would show it! ), but remember it well. It's got an outstanding cast and I'm sure that you'd like it a lot! :-)
