In the latest U.S China trade war news, a day after telephonic talks started between the two sides, a top U.S. official warned that a trade deal with China would never happen as many of the contentious issues are hard to resolve.
White House chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow, in an interview with CNBC, said as an optimist he would hope for a deal on the Sino US trade matters even if the ground reality is different.
At the same time, he said, President Donald Trump is keen on a deal and thinks China President Xi Jinping also holds the same position.
Using a football analogy, Kudlow explained the challenges involved in a trade deal with China.
It's like being on the seven-yard line at a football game, Kudlow said.
And as a long-suffering New York Giants fan, they could be on the seven and they never get the ball to the end zone. When you get down to the last 10 percent, seven-yard line, it's tough, he added referring to the hurdles in making a closure to the trade negotiations.
The talks to end the trade war between the U.S and China broke down in May after the United States blamed China for retreating from commitments including new laws to address the U.S. concerns.
Our team, time and again, asked for the change in Chinese laws and resistance mounted on that point, Kudlow said.

America wants China to buy things from America.
China has not bought things from America for the last 30 years, they have only make things and SOLD them to America.
The CCP does not want to give up its total control over the entire country of China.
America wants guarantees.
I really do not see any resolution of this.
President Trump, we elected you to do something about this mess.
No president has done a thing, for the last 30 YEARS.
You said you would.
Will you?
You live in Vietnam and you are mad at Trump for not being faithful to his promise to the US to make China pay?
Id rather no deal than to allow it to go on as before. Our soybean farmers can find other markets, they are strong and resourceful, but we cant continue to allow thechinese to steal our IP
I live in Vietnam, but I am from America.
I have been for Trump since the beginning. I voted for Trump in Michigan (one of 10,000 votes that put him over in the state). I was one of Trump’s original supporters on this website. Before he even announced.
I have been saying we are getting ripped off by China FOREVER.
I am living here, but I am not Vietnamese.
“Will you?”
Of course he will.
Trump just doesn’t need retarded little ankle biters forgetting the power he is standing up too.
Sounds to me like someone, not you, is shorting the market big time. This little commentary by Kudlow will send it into tailspins. Oh what fun... not.
Trump has said he will do several things. One is fixing trade with china and the other is dealing with the illegal mess. So far he is shooting blanks on both topics. He has done other things well but not these two.
When there are standing judge issued deportation orders that have not been acted upon something is rotten.
So what is being admitted is that China in no way wants free and fair open markets? That makes the US the bad guys for desiring such? Says a lot. They need our market, we want access to theirs.
I completely agree with you. 100%.
Those two issues, are why I supported Trump since the very beginning.
Those two issues.
Completely, totally right. Thank you.
Trump IS doing something about it, if China won’t play fair then they will be tariffed until they collapse.
China collapsing might be a better outcome than a deal.
Moreover, China's unbalanced demographics, overleveraged economy, and lack of rule of law and democratic mechanisms make the Communist Party's long term grip on power uncertain, while her potential to exert power is constrained by geography and thuggish behavior that has stirred up antagonism among her neighbors. These considerations could eventually lead to a trade deal with the US that looks to China's security more than any prospect for larger gains without a deal.
Excuse me, Trump IS dealing with it via the tariffs. I think he’s realized the tariffs are good for our economy and national security in the long run. Meanwhile, I think China has decided for now it would rather keep ripping off Western technology than get rid of the tariffs, if that’s the choice. Being communist dictators, they don’t like the idea of giving anything up.
You make a good point but the markets tremble at the thought. It does not bother me since I profane all the chinese junk I can avoid.
