The New York City Department of Education announced recently that all students will be permitted to change their names and genders at will.
According to a press release, students at the New York City public school will be permitted to change their name and gender without providing proper legal documentation. Instead of first changing their name at city hall, students will be permitted to change their personal identifiers with the New York City school system itself. However, students will be required to obtain their parent’s permission before requesting a name change.
The new policy, which was highlighted this week by The College Fix, was announced by New York City Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza, who argued that the policy will provide comprehensive support for transgender students.
Other city officials, including New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s wife Chirlane McCray, argued that the policy signifies that the New York City public school system is leading the way on LGBT rights.

If you want to go to girls locker room after lunch, then “poof” you’re a girl. Then, later that afternoon, you need to go to football practice, then “poof” you’re a boy. I wonder if they can change races, too? In February, everyone could change their race to black for Black History Month. Ah, the possibilities! </sarc>
Just until they can pass "conversion therapy" bans at which point, parents won't have any say in the matter.
Parents permission needed for a name change? But not for an abortion? Interesting as to how the powers that be decide what is, and what is not, a matter of parental concern

It’s not fair. They should be able to change their species as well. Plus you should be able to change your age. Also, if you identify as an A student, you should be allowed to change your grades.
I’d self identify as the student with the highest gpa and post it on my college application. That’d be cheaper than my parents shelling out millions to get me admitted.
“Mom & Dad, would you mind if I change to ‘Stephanie’? I’m tired of ‘Steve.’ Besides, I’ll be able to get into the girl’s locker room after I change my name.”
Better yet, those guys named Chris, Bobbie, Kelsey, Frankie, Sidney, and Robin have it made. They can just waltz right into the girl’s room without even changing their names.
Nope. Sorry, the school set a very strict limit to one name change per week.

At will? So they can do it mid-conversation? They can identify as female on their way into the girls’ locker rooms, and male again after leaving? Demand others use the “correct” pronoun, but change that pronoun every 15 minutes?
I don’t think they thought this one through at all.
