Woman loses job for 'teaching while conservative'

Now you can be ousted from your job just for holding traditional, conservative American political views.

It’s happened to Dr. Karen Siegemund, president of the American Freedom Alliance, who was booted from her math-teaching position at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, a private K-12 school in southern California.

The school explained, according to a GoFundMe page set up on Siegemund’s behalf, ” … [O]ne of your speeches as the leader of the American Freedom Alliance states: ‘Each of us here, believes in the unparalleled force for good that is Western Civilization, that is OUR heritage, whether we were born here or not.'”

“Karen lost her job because she was ‘teaching while conservative,'” said Michael Greer, who set up the page to help the teacher fight back.

Siegemund’s plight has caught the attention of right-leaning figures across America.

Dave Sussman at Ricochet opined: “Keep in mind, this is an institution of learning where teachers are allowed to wear ‘Resist’ t-shirts in the classroom.”

Private school, private rules. Just imagine the little UPOS kids coming out of there. K-12. Yup, start when they're young and mold their minds.

Yes, of course. You do not have freedom of thought in the USA. You lose your job for not going along with insanity.

Why FreeRepublic is anonymous.

Freedom of Speech? a joke.

THAT was controversial?? Geez.... you know, I was actually going to apply there about 10 years ago, because I studied French in college and was having a heck of a time dealing with the little munsters in LAUSD. I don't remember why I didn't go for it, but now I can see I probably wouldn't have gotten past the interview process anyway.

Well, look at it. Private school. Kommiefornia. A sewer within a sewer: LA.

Surely she would have anticipated such.

Having said that, I hope she can do to them what the bakers did to that other school, viz. sue them into oblivion.

Their next Math teacher should embrace one of those cultures where the counting system goes:

one
two
a lot

It’s simple. It’s clean. It’s better than the Math we used to put someone on the Moon.

She was teaching MATH.

It’s not like she was teaching political science and was trying to indoctrinate the kids.

‘Private School, private rules’
Yup, you cant argue with that.

If flaming liberals want their kids to be the same, they can send them to a PRIVATE flaming liberal school.

It works the same the other way. If we want a sane education for our kids we would send them to a private school that spouses our views and beliefs.

So I think things are as they should be.

What is not alright is flaming liberals regressives imposing their views in PUBLIC schools.

I bet she has a really good case for a lawsuit.

It may be a private school. But I bet the rule that you can’t say anything positive about Western Civilization is not specified.

Until fairly recently, that would not have been considered a particularly conservative position. Pretty much everyone was on-board for that. What she stated are simply the facts. America is an extension of western civilization. The people who founded America and most of the people who have settled here are from western civilization. Our institutions are those of western civilization. Of course we have people from all over the world here, but none of the groups have had an impact on America that western civilization has — not even close. If schools want to teach about the contributions of non-westerners to America, that’s fine. But it has to be in the proper perspective.

What area the most developed non-western countries in the world? They are the ones that have adopted at least some aspects of western civilization.

If what she said is not in line with the “values” or philosophy of what the school teaches, what exactly does the school teach?

She didn’t even make the remark in the classroom. Her sin was a speech”...[O]ne of your speeches as the leader of the American Freedom Alliance...”

Tuition for the high school is $30,550 per year. A lot of money to never hear an opposing point of view.
