MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - John Merrill officially announced Tuesday he will run for the U.S. Senate.

Merrill made the announcement around 10 a.m. Tuesday, releasing a video on social media.

Merrill was elected Alabama’s chief elections officer in 2014 and won re-election in 2018.

The Senate seat is currently held by Democrat Doug Jones, who defeated Republican Roy Moore in a 2017 special election.

Won’t vote for Moore, but as a former affiliate of Theta Nu Epislon I won’t vote for Merrill either.

What does Theta Nu Epsilon have to do with it?

Moore can’t win. Even Trump said publicly he doesn’t want him to run.

It was totally disgusting how posters who don’t want Moore to run were treated.

No, that's not accurate. The posters who were saying nasty things about Moore is more accurate.

A lot of people voiced the opinion that they didn't want Moore to run, including myself, but only the ones who got mean and hateful about it got hammered.

I think John Merill entering the race is a good thing. I admire Judge Moore, but I think both Alabama and the Nation will be better served if someone else runs for that office.

Trump got 1.3 million votes. Doug Jones got 670,000. If Moore wins the nomination, the only way he can lose is if 630,000 Republican voters decide to split their ticket.

Do you really think half of Alabama's Trump voters are gonna split their ticket?

Roy Moore can very well win. If he gets the nomination, it's virtually impossible for him to lose.

With Merill in the race, he likely won't get the nomination, so it becomes academic anyway.

Yeah, I found it and read it a little while ago. I guess the fact Moore managed to lose a slam-dunk Senate race in an R+28 state doesn’t seem to hit home with some people.

So much wrong with this statement.

Moore didn't lose it. The massive media propaganda focus on the Alabama Senate race, coupled with lying bitches making false accusations, coupled with Republican backstabbing, is what lost it.

Change any one of those, and Moore won it.

Had the Republicans not shown some backbone in defending Kavanaugh, he too would have lost a slam-dunk confirmation.

All I said was Moore can’t win.

No, you were also repeatedly insistent that the accusations against Moore must be true because two women filed sworn affidavits alleging sexual assault.

That's where the thread bogged down.

Or the 630,000 don’t show up!
Now they may show up for Trump and other GOP but not for Moore. It doesn’t mean they’ll vote Rat. You can leave a ballot blank.

Control of the Senate, USSC, & other federal judgeships are not worth the risk!

Or the 630,000 don’t show up!

You are suggesting that 630,000 of Trump's voters will not show up just to spite Moore?

You really believe that?

630,000 people are gonna leave their ballot blank for Senator?

I'm pretty sure that if Moore won the nomination, Trump would urge people to support him. He did the last time, so it's reasonable to believe he would do so this time.

So 630,000 people would just ignore Trump and leave their ballot blank?

I don't believe that. Nor should you.

They did the last time.
Not worth the gamble.
But not my gamble it’s Alabama’s gamble.

The Senate, USSC , other federal judgeships far more important then Moore.

You must of missed the thread on FR yesterday. Having the opinion that Moore can’t win can get you banned.

It was the first time I’ve ever been accused of being a troll(go back to DU) or a bot, but it didn’t deter me.

Moore must be defeated in the primary.

It wasn’t just limited to the Moore thread. Yesterday was a really bad day for FR. There were a lot of posts that reflected really badly.

That is a LIE! I said why didn’t Moore challenge in court the sworn affidavits from women who said they were sexually assaulted.

Even if Moore is totally innocent, one thing is very important at this time:

He is not in a good place to WIN.

That’s the most important thing this election.

Do the right thing for the country, Moore, stay out of it.
