What comes next after the United States?
American Thinker ^ | June 15, 2019 | Eric Utter

As Washington was the "one indispensable man," the U.S. is the one indispensable nation. The less its leaders and its citizens believe that, the more it is proven to be true, as the world situation deteriorates. Yet many Americans are experiencing a crisis of faith, deeper and more sinister than the "malaise" with which Jimmy Carter said we were afflicted in the late 1970s.

Truth be told, the United States has been in the midst of a "Cold Culture War" for several decades. That war is essentially over. The progressives won. In 1993, Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-N.Y.) coined the phrase "defining deviancy down" to describe the redefining of deviancy to exempt conduct previously stigmatized and brand behavior previously considered abnormal and abhorrent as normal and mainstream. (He was vehemently against this practice). Can anyone imagine a Democrat saying such a thing today? Shortly thereafter came the "trickle-down immorality" of the Clinton years. In more recent times, marriage has been redefined, with homosexuality approved and celebrated and the LGBTQIIA+ community holding public "PRIDE!" parades all over the fruited plain, and men who claim to be women have won the "right" to excrete or compete in any bathroom, locker room, or venue their transgendered hearts desire.

The Left never gives in, never tires, never wavers, always presses on. The Ten Commandments are banned from public spaces. Conservatives are prevented from speaking on college campuses or shouted down if they are "allowed" to speak. Those wearing "MAGA" hats are the targets of bullying and violence. Statues of Civil War figures and former presidents are removed as statues of Baphomet are unveiled. Christianity is boldly mocked in movies, on television, and by "entertainers" and academics. Anti-Semitism is on the rise.

That changed the landscape of morality and attitudes in our country. And it was allowed to slip by uncontested. As long as that is legal we are doomed, IMHO

I totally agree. The slippery slope started when you could have sex purely for pleasure and without any consequences. While premarital sex may or may not be a "perversion," once that horse had bolted from the barn, the door was open for every other perversion under the sun to become normalized.

First it was "leave us alone in the privacy of our bedrooms." That, of course, quickly led to "we'll do whatever we want whenever and wherever we want." Which, in no time at all, morphed into "You MUST accept anything we do AND you must like it -- PRIDE!"

The other big factors were WW I and WW II. Women began working outside the home in huge numbers to feed the war machines which led to it being acceptable for kids to be raised without their biological parents present. Those wars irreparably changed our attitudes toward many things. Mark Steyn wrote in "America, Alone" that the wars ushered in nihilism and fatalism which made people not care about the future and their progeny. Fertility rates in many European countries dropped far below replacement, hence triggering the importation of ignorant third-world labor which is an unmitigated disaster.

Trump won by the skin of his teeth. He has the thinnest support in Congress that I’ve ever seen. You can count on your fingers and toes his true supporters and maybe using just your fingers.

The tradition of the peaceful transition of power in the U.S. is now gone thanks to radical leftists and Democrats. Even if Republicans win, the “resistance” has tasted blood and won’t stop at anything. They follow the communist maxim “the ends justify the means” no matter what the means are.

Back then, most people were born, lived and died in the same city/county. The pickings for potential mates were few, and so you basically had to find someone "good enough" and stick with it. Of course increased mobility increased the number of potential mates, and now with the Internet, the illusion of "many fish in the sea", make it so that people hold out until they find their "soulmate", which of course in the vast majority of cases, never happens.

...as long as we stay under law.

There is a huge part of the populace that wants nothing to do with our body of sacred law. Unfortunately, many in all branches of the federal government do not believe in law (thanks, Obama). Our horrible two-tier law and justice system (as evidenced by the past three years) will be our downfall.

That republic will be incapable of producing anything. They will be marauders against the adjoining productive nations.

I don't recall seeing anyone of FR do anything but blog their disappointment of losing their culture and Nation. Blog, blog, blog.

No action. No riots. No demonstrations. No recall elections. No new Representatives. No action. Ever.

There’ll be probably seven or eight of these “Democrat People’s Republics”.

"This article is superficial blah blah BS."

It's a succinct essay recapping how we got where we are. It's been a slow, incremental journey of 60 or 70 years, but it is accelerating. What do you find to be BS?

Wow, I feel for you and what you went through. I cannot imagine that pain and anguish. My first college girlfriend had problems with pain and regularity (certainly not to your extent) and used hormonal contraceptives for medical purposes. It made her able to lead a more normal, painfree life. That was my first exposure to such medical use.

Medical use is, I suspect, a very small percentage of the use of hormonal contraceptives. Richard Moore in #22 wrote “[the pill] changed the landscape of morality and attitudes in our country.” There is no doubt that is true. I also believe you can draw a straight line from the changes in morality the pill brought to the unlimited perversions we now see daily.

Whomever made that map should have created a literal “left coast” — coastal CA, OR, and WA — Whereas the inland parts of those states would form the west-most part of the central flyover area.

Heh heh. Now that’s a novel answer. I never thought a big bowl of sugar was the answer, but perhaps I need to rethink that.

“US grown too big for britches”

Or, US has gone far too long without a cataclysmic war that wipes out 25% of the population and leaves everybody destitute and struggling for survival. We are too rich and have way too much leisure time which allows leftists to indulge their fantasies.

That’s a good perspective on another aspect of what technological innovation did to change America. Increased mobility, first via railroads, then interurban trollies, and finally via the automobile certainly changed things. I hadn’t thought about that aspect before.

Technology does have a way of changing things in ways nobody could have imagined:
* transportation (as you point out)
* hormonal contraceptives
* global instantaneous communications

No action. No riots. No demonstrations.

You are wrong there. But it's the leftists and anarchists who do those things all the time. They never seem to have to work for a living.

Those who desire to conserve what's good are busy working and raising families...and just want to be left alone. You don't find people who want to maintain the status quo on the barricades. Sad but true.

It’s already over though most people don’t know it. Donald Trump is intolorable to the Dems. His winning a 2nd term will probably start the violence.

On the other hand the Dems have demonstrated...let me say thay again...DEMONSTRATED that the Law is what THEY want it to be at any given time. That reality is what they want it to be at any given time. That TRUTH is whatever they want it to be at any given time. Now...how many FReepers can imagine simply going about their lives if these purely Evil Democrats get their hands on the Whitehouse and congress? We won’t have to wait one day for the outrages to the Constitution to begin...Not even one day.

After years of obesrvING most of history it is a given that most humans will knuckle under to tyranny. In America the tyrannical will have to kill the reletively few who have the brains and balls to fight. That may not go so well...
