26 wounded in missile attack by Houthi rebels at Saudi airport: report
Fox News ^ | 06/12/2019

The attack on Wednesday comes as Japan's prime minister is expected in Iran to mediate between Tehran and Washington amid escalating tensions in the Persian Gulf regions.

Coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki says a projectile struck the arrival hall of Abha's airport in the southern part of the kingdom near its border with Yemen on Wednesday. That's according to Saudi Arabia's state-run Al-Ekhabriya news channel.

He says three women and two children are among the 26 hurt in the attack. Eight have been hospitalized and the rest sustained minor injuries. The Houthis earlier on Wednesday claimed they'd launched a cruise missile at the Abha airport.

Oops! Looks like I was mistaken about the proximity of said airport to the border.

War in Yemen has been active since 1970s...I was there. No big deal...and I don’t care who wins as long as it’s not the Iranian/Russian side.

I wonder what the media reaction would be if the Saudis started bombing Iranian airports.

“I wonder what the media reaction would be if the Saudis started bombing Iranian airports.”

All we are likely to see are proxy fights. Imagine two hateful, machinegun packing neighbors, across the street from one another, each living in a crystal palace. That’s the situation here.

Because of Iran’s threats to close the Strait of Hormuz, Saudi Arabia built a pipeline to the Red Sea so they could still get their oil out. “Someone” hit the pipeline with drones. Virtually all of the oil production facilities in both countries are indefensible to drones and missiles. Sure each side could intercept a few missiles but it only takes a handful getting through to limit or eliminate the victim’s oil flow, and therefore, cash flow. Either government would fall shortly after that. Iran is probably in the worse position because virtually all of their production leaves via Kharg Island. One successful sortie could end Iran as a regional power.

These neighbors hate each other, but they sit in their crystal palaces cradling their machine guns, staring across the street, each waiting for the other to make his move. Meanwhile, both are paying proxies to break as many back windows on the other side that they can.

Incidentally, when one side realizes they have lost, they will overturn the game and smash the other fellow’s palace. At that point, my oil stocks will allow me to retire.

Interesting take. Thanks for the post. Your opinion on Trump’s sanctions effect on Iran?

“Your opinion on Trump’s sanctions effect on Iran?”

Iran informed Hezbollah that they could no longer afford to subsidize them. Hezbollah has been handing out little banks for children to get filled up as donations. So, because of Trump Hezbollah has been reduced to dong the Islamic equivalent of bake sales. The Iranian government is under extreme pressure from their citizens to stop subsidizing an infinite war in Syria and to concentrate on the situation at home, where food and fuel prices are going up, up, up. Iran’s threats against US forces in the area is desperate flailing around to get Trump to relent and allow relief. Also, large EU companies have left Iran due to Trump’s threat to make them pay for ignoring his embargo.

All the pressure points are in Trump’s favor. Timing is in Trump’s favor. The question is; is Trump pushing for regime change? Or, is he willing to negotiate short of regime change? He has them in an armlock, but he doesn’t want to use military force as he promised no more foreign wars. One way to not have to fight a war is to make it look and sound like he is ready and willing to do so. I think he is playing good cop/bad cop by letting his cabinet officials sound the war drums while he appears to waffle. Trump is not a waffler. If he appears to do so, it is for show.
