Red pill or blue pill? You decide.
Twenty years after the Wachowskis iconic 1999 film, The Matrix, introduced us to a futuristic world in which humans exist in a computer-simulated non-reality powered by authoritarian machinesa world where the choice between existing in a denial-ridden virtual dream-state or facing up to the harsh, difficult realities of life comes down to a red pill or a blue pillwe stand at the precipice of a technologically-dominated matrix of our own making.
We are living the prequel to The Matrix with each passing day, falling further under the spell of technologically-driven virtual communities, virtual realities and virtual conveniences managed by artificially intelligent machines that are on a fast track to replacing us and eventually dominating every aspect of our lives.
Science fiction has become fact.
In The Matrix, computer programmer Thomas Anderson a.k.a. hacker Neo is wakened from a virtual slumber by Morpheus, a freedom fighter seeking to liberate humanity from a lifelong hibernation state imposed by hyper-advanced artificial intelligence machines that rely on humans as an organic power source. With their minds plugged into a perfectly crafted virtual reality, few humans ever realize they are living in a dream world.

It really seems to me the world is rapidly changing in ways that are difficult to appreciate just what the magnitude or importance of these new phenomenon are. IMHO we are seeing the rise of something that is not quite but at the same time beyond the global corporation but something more like a supranational enterprise (Amazon, Alphabet, etc.). Entities that are not subject to mundane, Medeival regulations and laws restraining nations. Entities whose goals are perhaps obscured because we are observing them through traditional filters that cause us to see them as capitalist enterprises whose goals are traditional, making money. They have already made plenty of money and can now leverage that into power aimed at not making more money but taking more power. Economies may not be a zero sum game but politics largely is and the political realm is where an organization creates real power. IOW all the power these entities gain comes at the expense of our sovereignty. Which is why these entities push these agendas, fag marriage, gun control, etc. This is why EVERY nation in the world has to bow to their demands (Why does anyone in the world care if Iceland bans circumcision?).
Surveillance-Transaction-Surveilance Society bump for later....
If electric vehicles, drones, robots, automation etc. continues to improve we may eventually end up with something like "Surrogates."
Astoundingly effective and efficient technology in the hands of some of the most corrupt and mentally unstable people on the planet.
What could go wrong?
It all reminds me of the history lessons we had about the industrial revolution and the many abuses (political, material and social, etc.) which took place.
People who never had authority and never should have had authority, were suddenly in a position to play God with others.
It is an interesting parallel. We too, have unprincipled, greedy criminals who are NOW in a position to take the most unfair advantage of individuals, companies, countries, etc.
Its too bad that over the centuries, no one has valued honesty and fair dealing enough to sustain it. Masses of people who have no business interfering with me and my interests, suddenly can do so with perfect impunity!
Its especially galling when some of those people are in my government...these crooks were appointed by people I did not elect. Their powers are only vaguely defined, they are in no way qualified for their responsibilities, they assume a great deal of informal authority and theyre totally out of control, They answer to NO ONE!.
Its the worst possible cocktail of unlimited power and unlimited resources in the hands of pathologically unscrupulous people.
Hows that for progress?
Funny thing about the ramped up use of survellance technology by the state. The outrage is over "false ID," not the fact that Big Brother is watching. 100% of what is sent over the internet and uttered over the phone is captured. Cameras everywhere, People would be shocked to learn how pervasive facial (and licence plate) recognition is automated. And yet not much said about the reality - just that the technology doesn't work as reliably as it ought to.
Precrime ...
Sounds like the arcadians from Dean Koontz Jane Hawk novels.
Kinda dramatic, but true.
In Oregon, just in the last 4 months, the state legislature has passed a state wide rent control bill, they can now dictate how much we can charge, how we can evict and how much we can raise the rents per year. They have passed a gross receipts tax. Any business that gross' over a million dollars per year, .5% tax on the gross of a small business. Not happy with that amount of money coming in, they are debating and will pass a cap and trade tax. It will be a huge hit for manufacturing and farm business', on top of the gross receipts tax.
It got so bad that the R's quit showing up to work, they boycotted their own jobs, negotiated to shelve some of the more radical bills for them to come back to work. Don't even get me started on the gun bill and forced immunization bill on the back burner for now! We have to move, but in our mid 60's, not easy.
I am just waiting for the bill that eliminates all citizens over 70 especially if they are not working. Don't contribute? bye!
Put down the phone
surveillance over
These days people are just enslaved by their stupid little phone
its really nothing more than that
Im giving my kids stern warnings about it although all they really care about right now is fortnight
