Skid Row (Downtown) lyrics
[WOMAN]
Alarm goes off at seven
And you start uptown.
You put in your eight hours
For the powers that have always been.
Till it’s five P.M.
[BUM 1]
Then You go
[COMPANY]
Downtown
Where the folks are broke.
Downtown
Where your life’s a joke.
Downtown
When you buy your token,
you go
Home to skid row.
[BUM 2]
Yes, you go
[COMPANY]
Downtown
Where the cabs don’t stop
Downtown
Where the food is slop
Downtown
Where the hop-heads flop
in the snow
Down on Skid Row
Uptown you cater to a million jerks.
Uptown you’re messengers and
mailroom clerks
eating all your lunches at the
hot dog carts.
The bosses take your money
And they break your hearts.
Uptown you cater to a million whores.
You disinfect terrazzo on their
bathroom floors.
Your morning’s tribulation,
afternoon’s a curse
And five o’clock is even worse
[BUM 3]
That’s when you go
[COMPANY]
Downtown
Downtown
Downtown
Down on skid row
Down on skid row
Down on skid row
Down on skid row!
[AUDREY]
Where the guys are drips.
Where they rip your slips.
Where relationships are no go.
Down on skid row
Down on skid row
Down on skid row
Down on skid row
M’yeah, where’s your “Golden State” now, California?
Sometimes, the best you can do is warn other people.
Are you warning the people of North Idaho about what can happen if they become like Los Angeles?
I used to love riding a bicycle on the blacktop roads on the prairie north of Post Falls.
Way different these days.
It’s gotten bad enough that the LA Times can’t ignore it any more - and/or someone at the LA Times got sick as a result of the squalor, forcing them to officially take notice.
It’s the Golden Showers State now. :P
Although that’s not really true. They’ll say that but are really just narcissists, virtue signalling that they’re such caring and compassionate people. When they say they want to “take care” of everyone what they really mean is with somebody ELSE’S money - i.e. “the government”.
Then they will do absolutely nothing themselves. It’s a cheap way to convince others you’re such a great person with no effort involved.
Thank you!
Back in the '70s this guy was the governor of California:
And this guy was working the streets:
I know several sane, working people in Los Angeles who are forced to navigate these very streets, and they’ve told me it’s terrifying on foot or by auto.
There’s an AP that monitors 911 calls. Working folks need it, to know how to avoid whatever outrage is taking place at any given time, in order to get to work safely.
Recently, there was a “bicycle terrorist”— a resident of the homeless encampment— who would cycle up beside random pedestrians, or people waiting for a bus, and slash them with a razor.
The homeless folks knew his identity, but nobody was giving him up. That would be discriminatory, see?
One friend told me the residents have been begging the PTB for years to have abandoned shopping malls & big-box stores repurposed as housing, and better yet, mental hospitals, to get these people off the streets.
The PTB prefer to hire armies of SJWs to essentially play whack-a-mole, picking up the trash & shit piles, over & over as the piles grow worse daily.
Meanwhile, more & more businesses are simply shutting down.
What we need are more illiterate people working in positions of public responsibility. Time to double down like a good progressive. Two steps back for every step forward. /sarc

The broken windows theory is a criminological theory that states that visible signs of crime, anti-social behavior, and civil disorder create an urban environment that encourages further crime and disorder, including serious crimes. The theory suggests that policing methods that target minor crimes such as vandalism, public drinking, and fare evasion help to create an atmosphere of order and lawfulness, thereby preventing more serious crimes.
The theory was introduced in a 1982 article by social scientists James Q. Wilson and George L. Kelling.[1] It was further popularized in the 1990s by New York City police commissioner William Bratton and Mayor Rudy Giuliani, whose policing policies were influenced by the theory.
The theory has been subject to great debate both within the social sciences and the public sphere. Broken windows policing has become associated with controversial police practices such as the use of stop-and-frisk by the New York City Police Department. In response, Bratton and Kelling have written that broken windows policing should not be treated as zero tolerance or zealotry, but as a method that requires careful training, guidelines and supervision and a positive relationship with communities, thus linking it to community policing.
“means life/ nature out of balance.”
Bingo dat.
Nature & the world are binary. Centripetal/ centrifugal, push/ pull, hot/cold, up/down, male/ female, thesis/ antithesis, left/ right, east/ west, true/ false, good/ evil.
The folks who insist “the binary” doesn’t exist, are throwing the whole “yin/ yang” thing out of whack.
LA should be fair warning to ALL AMERICANS that this this is what happens when you vote Democrat!
A vote for ANY Democrat, whether it be in a local, state or federal election, is a vote against America!
America cannot survive a Democrat victory in 2020!
A boss told me I have a black and white view of life.
I didn’t want to spring Manichean on the fellow, so I
just nodded.
“You are used to this kind of behavior.”
Well, not really. Even the Brain dead are starting to complain. Complain but still vote for socialist. I doubt their brains will kick in anytime soon.
Oh, my no. This isn't the past, it's the future.
When the state was run by republicans like The Iron Duke and Ronald Reaga it was known as the Golden State. Clean, beautiful beyond words with the best streets and highways in the country.
Look at it now
You forget God? He forgets you.
Yeah, good luck with that.
