A Sharpsburg man is accused of beating another man into unconsciousness at the Wood Street Light Rail Transit station and throwing him onto the tracks in a racially motivated attack, according to Port Authority police.
Willie J. Hayes, 46, who is black, was charged Wednesday with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and ethnic intimidation in connection with the Saturday evening attack, according to a criminal complaint.
Surveillance video from the T Station showed Hayes approach the victim, Charles Basarab, who is white, on the platform just before 9 p.m. Saturday, according to the complaint. Hayes then punched Mr. Basarab three times before throwing Mr. Basarab onto the tracks, according to the complaint.
Hayes then walked to the edge of the platform and looked down at Mr. Basarab, who appeared to be unconscious, before leaving the station.

Well, this is odd. It seems to me the perp was triggered by the mere presence of what appeared to be a ‘white’ individual. I’m sure this will all be okay once they calculate the trigger level of the event.

Someone please explain to my why the crime of "beating another man into unconsciousness" doesn't receive the stiffest punishment possible. Can anyone make the case that this thug would deserve a lesser sentence if his victim was of the same race?

This headline coming from the media actually surprises me.
I can’t recall ever hearing about a black person targeting a white person and having it admitted that it was racially motivated.
Lots of guys like this thug have been gentrified out of Lawrenceville, across the river into Sharpsburg. Sounds like he was at the Wood Street T station just looking for a white victim. The T doesn’t go to Sharpsburg.
Yet another example of a racial hate crime by a feral. He should go to prison for a long time. Too bad the guy he assaulted wasn’t carrying. It would have the taxpayers a lot of money.
