Libertarians want Justin Amash to run for president, and he may do it
Washington Examiner ^ | May 22, 2019

Rep. Justin Amash's tweets declaring that President Trump committed impeachable offenses have made him an outcast among Republicans, but many of his supporters are excited about what they see as a sign he will run for president as a Libertarian.

The Michigan Republican, 39, is known for defying party leaders on issues such as mass surveillance and government spending. And since Trump took office, he’s been viewed as a possible Libertarian champion in 2020 — a notion amplified by his Saturday remarks.

Amash’s emergence as a possible competitor may have caught Trump’s campaign off-guard.

I don’t fault Johnson for not knowing about Aleppo

~~~
That was such a gotcha.
I’m pretty good at trivia, and world geography is one of my better categories, and if I had not happened to have tuned into the news within the week or two before that question was asked, I probably would have guessed that Aleppo was in Turkey. Points for being close, but no cigar. I only remember that because it was overblown into such a stink at the time. It was more of a current event’s gotcha. Some US State governor isn’t going to know where Aleppo is any more than your average columnist is going to know where Cimarron Canyon is when asked out of the blue.
I only voted for Johnson because Hillary was the absolute most corrupt politician to run for President in my lifetime (even thought he media was suppressing all of it like they did with Obama’s sordid history) and I was really afraid that despite all Trump was saying he was really a NewYork liberal trying to trojan horse his way into office as a republican. I wont make that mistake in 2020, obviously. Johnson was my rebellion vote.
Why hasn’t he been forced to resign by Republicans yet, or worse is still part of the committee without being forceably removed?
“...and I was really afraid that despite all Trump was saying he was really a NewYork liberal trying to trojan horse his way into office as a Republican.”
I hear you. I was a very strong Cruz supporter in 2016. I felt the same way about Trump. I was ready to cast a vote for the Constitution Party candidate as a protest.
But about two weeks before the election, I came on board and voted for Trump.
If this traitor got 5% in the swing states it might be enough to hand the election to the Rat. The Libertarians know this so what does that say about them?
Although I dearly love the books and CDs of Robert Ringer, I always get angry when I see polls or election results with Libertarian candidates taking votes away from the conservative. Ringer's current web opinions strongly back Trump, by the way.
No one knows for sure but I believe some GOP votes go to the Libertarian, not "people who never would have voted for Trump." Or the number of former Dems who could fit in a broom closet.
In several places in 2016 they said "if the 4% had been added to Trump instead of the Libertarian...." .
Sorry to be biased and hardnosed but TRUMP HAS TO WIN and no Libertarian "symbolic" "hopeless feelgood" votes should destroy that.
All the leftists will stick together. We know that. It's the right that drifts around like goats and chickens in disarray in the barnyard. Who are the Dems' Paul Ryan or Flake and Romney or McCain? Gone since the 1980s.
We can't afford symbolic throwaway votes like the Eldridge Cleaver ones in 1968 or the various Flat Earth Society ones or Yippies. That's how Libertarian votes look in 2020.
Would they truly accept totalitarian socialist rule if Trump and the House & Senate GOP lost in 2020? For generations of darkness for Americans? How selfish.
I would consider Libertarian if someone like Mitt or Jeb was the nominee, but Trump? No way.
"I wont make that mistake in 2020, obviously. Johnson was my rebellion vote."
I wanted to vote for Johnson until the carbon tax thing. The absolute last thing we need is for the government to have yet more control over us through our energy consumption. So I voted for Trump, hoping some of his supposed conversion to conservatism was legit.
Agree with you 100% on the fear of Trump being a New York version of a Republican, especially considering his recent Democrat bona fides. I'm kinda mixed on Trump's results so far. I 100% love that he's made it obvious even to the average voter that the "news" sources are nothing but cheerleaders for their party. I also like his protection of 1st and 2nd Amendment rights even though he's not exactly the most Christian example to follow (which IMHO adds to his effect more than if a picture perfect Christian was trying to protect religious freedom).
Of course, one reason I was able to pull the lever for Trump is I'm not the usual libertarian in regards to immigration, abortion, and military. (Overturn Roe since the federal govt ain't got no authority from the Constitution on abortion, but then at the state level I'm 100% pro-life. The federal government does have the authority to protect our borders and from other attacks.)
And if had my way after 9/11 Afghanistan would have been made an example of in quick fashion -- removing the "need" for us to be involved in other military affairs later if everybody paying attention learned that we don't play with being attacked. So my libertarian position on the military is the whole peace through strength thing that many libertarians hate. Don't look for excuses to use the military (where I agree with most libertarians). But if attacked use it bigly so we aren't attacked again for a long, long time by anybody. That means I agree with conservatives during peace time -- beef up the military just in case it's needed and don't be afraid to use it. But only if attacked.
I think Trump has won over a lot of the skeptics on the right.
The McCain Republicans probably will vote for Biden.
“...ready to cast a vote for the Constitution Party candidate as a protest....”
I felt the same way. At first I thought what Trump was doing was a publicity stunt. Then I thought he was on a ego trip and at best would be a loud mouthed Nelson Rockefeller. However to stop Hellary I would vote for a loud mouth Nelson Riddle or Nelson of South Park.
I never throw my vote away! Voting has two components:
1) voting for someone &
2) vote against someone - to deny them power!
Using component 2) to deny someone power is often more important then giving someone power. Recent history demonstrates that! It’s rare I get to exercise component 1). I thought 2016 was another example of 2) perhaps the single most extreme example of 2) in my life. Now Trump is out-Reaganing Reagan 1) & 2) will both be exercised with pleasure.
I know I should be more respectful of FR Libertarians. But I can’t afford that when the bleak future of AOC and Bernie style America is facing us. The crooked illegal votes,millions of brainwashed young voters, vote harvesting and bullying by the media and judges have put us in a corner: Win in 2020 or it is all over.
People used to state that as hyperbole but in 2020 it is really the “last best hope” on the line. Chavez,Castro and Mao will look nice compared to the high tech tracking of conservatives and our imprisonment or elimination after 2020. The left has no God to restrain them. And no remorse or morals.
Trump and the GOP have to win.
There have always been people who are loyal to whoever grants them power.
These types of people are needed in power structure... the only time they're a danger is when power is shifting - or if the people in power start believing 'their loyalty' is real.
If you want a friend or someone loyal in DC, get a pet dog.
