Libertarians want Justin Amash to run for president, and he may do it
Washington Examiner ^ | May 22, 2019

Rep. Justin Amash's tweets declaring that President Trump committed impeachable offenses have made him an outcast among Republicans, but many of his supporters are excited about what they see as a sign he will run for president as a Libertarian.

The Michigan Republican, 39, is known for defying party leaders on issues such as mass surveillance and government spending. And since Trump took office, he’s been viewed as a possible Libertarian champion in 2020 — a notion amplified by his Saturday remarks.

Amash’s emergence as a possible competitor may have caught Trump’s campaign off-guard.

Justin Amash, by running as a left-libertarian, might draw votes equally from the Democrat as from the Republican.

Also, please remember to sign the petitions of the Green candidate. Had the greenie been on the ballot in Nevada, we might have won that state.

He’s been a gadfly in Congress. He takes contrarian positions on big issues to get attention.

It’s a play from the 2016 election Globalist playbook. The NeverTrumper cabal of RATs and Repukes put this fool front and center to present him to the world as their 2020 version of Evan McMuffin thinking he’ll pull votes away from Trump. Yeah, right. I’m sure behind the scenes the usual suspects like Bill Kristol has the strings attached to their new puppet Amash.

Progressive democrats simply hate libertarians. They see libertarians as wanting to legalize discrimination against minorities and to rape the environment.

Amash? Anyone who buys into the “Impeach Trump” scenario, based on what we know, is not a Republican or a Libertarian. They are the enemy.

Good, he pull more votes from the democrat than Trump. Let’s face it, anybody who would vote for Amash would have likely voted for the democrat or stayed home.
************************************************
I would hope so but I would worry that he wouldn’t. Remember, the low-IQ losertarians amongst us who would STUPIDLY vote for him rather than for Trump and therefore risk denying Trump a victory in some close states.

Don’t take this comment as disparagement for clear-thinking libertarians who realize a Trump presidency is far better than having the globalist, open-borders Statists in power.

Some idiot has to run as the Libertarian candidate. This chooch is as good as anybody else.

ALL third party candidates split the anti-Trump vote and help the cause. Nobody who intends to vote for Trump will be lured away by some random loser on the Libertarian or Green or Coffee Party ticket.

Further evidence that the Libertarians have become nothing but a Rat tool to siphon off GOP votes. If this traitor got 5% in the swing states it might be enough to hand the election to the Rat. The Libertarians know this so what does that say about them?

I have no love for libertarians. When I belonged to Young Americans for Freedom (YAF), a conservative youth organization, during the Nixon, Ford, Carter and Reagan years, we were engaged in a running battle with the libertarians who were constantly trying to take over YAF and commit it to supporting their pet projects, especially legalizing narcotics, prostitution and pornography and keeping abortion legal.

Supposedly his only accomplishment after 10 years in Congress is getting a bill passed to rename a post office. He fits right in with a do-nothing Congress.

I have found that there is a big difference between “economic libertarians” and “personal libertarians.” Economic libertarians want the government to generally leave people alone to conduct business. Personal libertarians want to do whatever the hell they want to do — often without paying the cost of doing it.

Yes. People will vote for Trump because they want Trump. People who vote for a 3rd party candidate don’t want the Democrat.

You cannot be economically conservative and socially liberal, they are joined at the hip.

Social liberalism creates a void that only gets filled with bigger government.

Yeah... It’s about 50/50 freemarket vs anarchist and even they can’t get along enough to get anything done. They took a big hit when Trump ran because it split the party in halve.

I agree with you, but what would be some examples of "socially liberal" policies that you'd consider libertarian?

I've got a real libertarian streak myself, and some people tell me I'm so conservative I make Ronald Reagan look like Karl Marx.

The best plan when dealing with liberaltarians is to beat the piss out of them every chance you get.

It won’t make them any more easy to live with, but it’s fun.

"As a libertarian who supports Trump..."

#MeToo.

Although I often hate it when Trump has a "solution" to a bad government program (i.e. Obamacare) by replacing it with another government program, in many ways Trump has become the libertarian hero be being the ultimate victim of government spying. It may be that Trump winds up stopping govt spying more than anybody who ever claimed to be a libertarian.

Plus, the Libertarian Party really looked bad in 2016. I don't fault Johnson for not knowing about Aleppo (the libertarian position is not to know everything about all the world's business). But I do fault him for supporting a carbon tax. Let me repeat that. A CARBON TAX!!! Not even Trump was for that. The Libertarian Party needs to nominate somebody who's more libertarian than just pot legalization.

Let him show the courage of his convictions.

By...

When he declares a run for the presidency, he also gives up his seat in congress.

Democrats may have found the guy who will shave off a good number of votes off Trump so they could squeeze a socialist through to the Presidency. I have no question in my mind there will be a challenge from a third party coming from the right of Trump to split the vote for him.
