Saudi Arabia has shot down two ballistic missiles over the cities of Taif and Jeddah, east and west of Mecca respectively, which it blamed on Yemen's Houthi movement.
Saudi air defences shot down a ballistic missile over the city of Taif, 65 kilometres east of Mecca, in the early hours of Monday morning. Another missile was launched at the port city of Jeddah, on the other side of Mecca, according to Saudi-owned news channel Alarabiya.

I’ hoping someone drops one on the Black Rock.
I am more and more convinced that the Israeli enhanced Arrow system is being employed with Israelis doing the whole operation. This is like a live fire test of their system and also showing the Arabs that Israel can intercept any missile they fire at them.
Darn. Well, better luck next time.
It also shows the Saudis that they will be very vulnerable if Israel ever withdraws its support...
Why do they have to shoot it down? I thought Allah would protect it.
Wouldn’t that be ironic.
Don'cha think?
There are many of our fellow Americans working in SA.
Damn the luck.
Very much a frenemy situation here.
Petroleum is both the big risk and the means of saving grace here. If Saudi Arabia can’t keep its world act together (regardless of how it manages things at home) then the whole world’s oil supply is in trouble. Not that Israel is so enamored of Saudi Arabia, but it doesn’t want the world trouble.
I worked there for 2 years.
Near? 65 klicks? Not even close.
I get calls to go there for computer systems- is it worth it?
I worked for ARAMCO for 2 years. The money was great. Because I was living in an ARAMCO compound, and working in an ARAMCO hospital I felt pretty safe. For R/R I would go to Bahrain for 2/3 of the Three B’s.
Booze, Bacon, (Broads)....
When I left in2015 the security situation had deteriorated. ISIS to the North, Yemen to the South, Iran to the East. Mosque bomings and shootings of the Shia. Not sure what it’s like now.
Dangit Bobby.
You’re supposed to have local guys shoot shoulder mounted rockets (RPGs?) at the stupid rock.
/no, I’m not advocating violence.
It depends where the position is. If it’s easy travel to Bahrain it’s good. The pay is high but it is repressive for non-Muslims. You basically just mark time as you fill your bank account because you’re not part of the society or culture.
They could attack Iran and stop this.
That's an interesting idea... the rumor that Israel has been using a very remote, empty quarter air base in the KSA, for a readiness area in case of an emergency brought on by Iran has persisted for years.
Dang! That would have been an awesome popcorn-eating event...
