#3 My limit is $10,000 with tax. I see the sticker price and cannot believe a new car can cost the high prices they charge. My parents had a house built for $43,000!

I’m with you. Technology lowers cost and improves quality in most industries, except autos, healthcare, and education somehow. GM employs about a third of the American workers they used to, but product prices doubled??? Well if automation and global slave labor doesn’t produce a reliable inexpensive car, then build them here. Don’t see anyone bitching about the Godzilla size TV business, because benefits of automation and cheap labor are obvious.

If Ford, GM, Dodge/Chrystler and the rest want to sell more vehicles, they need to lower the prices by about half. What blue collar working person can afford $40,000 to $70,000 for a damned vehicle? Henry Ford made it a point to make his vehicles affordable for those who made them and for most others in society. What ever happened to that concept?

I remember in 1993, I bought a Chevy S10 (5 speed!) for $14,000. yup, that’s it.

In 2007 I bought a GMC Canyon (basicaly, the S10 equivalent) for $21,000.

No maker is targeting the $15,000-20,000 range, which is why so many “millennial” are forgoing ownership for Uber/Lyft.

(BTW, I do own a F150 FX4 now, plus an older model Lexus, and even an older model Dodge Neon (5-speed)).

I think this is less about left and right than Deep State/unoparty vs Trump.

Ford allies with Deep State/uniparty.

No maker is targeting inexpensive vehicles because the margins suck.

Wages have been depressed for 30 years because that what the GOPe did at the globalists request/bribes. Don't blame the Democrats for this one.

I dunno, there may be more vehicles assembled in Kentucky than Michigan these days.

You have to adjust for inflation.

Converted amount ($14,000 base) = $24,758.98

Why we need an auto tariff.

Um, priests?

White for corporate probably went out when video first came in.

Everybody was told to wear blue shirts for media appearances, as white threw off the color balance, iirc.

There is a huge Toyota plant in Georgetown. They make Camry’s there and I don’t know what else.

German luxury auto manufacturer BMW makes cars designed for the Japanese market in Spartanburg SC.

Guess I am a very lucky GM owner.

Bought only ONE new car in my entire life-—all others were used.

Bought 1965 Pontiac Catalina station wagon in Feb of 12965 for $3434 out the door-—tax, license and extras. Put over 444,000 miles on that car in 32 years & sold it to a guy in Sweden who restored the exterior. The running gear worked just fine. Did an engine rebuild at 251,000 miles.

I bought a used 1979 Buick station wagon in August of 1981 for $3500. It now has over 215,000 miles on it and had engine gone thru & freshened up in 1998 at 155,000 miles.
Parts are not expensive-—I get most of my parts at Summit Racing.

I bought a used 1976 1 ton dually Chevy truck with a 4 speed Granny low transmission in April of 1986 for $4000 with 90,000 miles on it. It now has over 348,000 miles on it. Current engine—built by same guy as Buick—has less than 8000 miles on it because I don’t tow horses everywhere any more.

I also owned a 1957 Pontiac in 1957. Ex-husband sold it out from under me in 1959. I still hate him for that.

A 1959 Pontiac in early 1960. Same Ex-husband crashed that new car into a large stone church while drunk & totalled the car. Hate him even more for that.

A 1933 Chevy pick up truck with 1952 straight 6 in it in 1960. Don’t remember cost. Painted over the rust with SILVER Rustoleum & a BRUSH. Got laughed at, but it was transportation & it started when temp was -70 once in Wisconsin-—before ‘wind chill’ stats. I pushed started the other 5 cars in the family driveway on the farm.

A 1952 Chevy fastback in 1963.

Am now 79, and these 2 current vehicles have to last until I die.

The newest car on your list is 1979. And you were smart to not buy a Vega. :D

Pensions.

It is eating them alive. And they (Ford) had some pretty bad engine issues. I have a Ford. Cam phasers issue led to a new motor (thank God I have a friend who can help with that!)

Next truck will be a Nissan or Toyota. Came from a GM family but that bridge burned long ago.

Argue with you alot, but I doubt that graph. I think it is worse.

And it is getting worse. Even with the market today, there is little push to raise wages. So who can buy a $60K truck anymore?

According to https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/ your $14000 in 1993 was worth $20,088 in 2007. You see how the government has been cheating you by devaluing the US Dollar.

They get to drive if off the lot by taking out 6 and 7 year loans.
