"Law and Order" fans, how's this for an episode?
A retired judge calls for a special prosecutor to examine how Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx mishandled the notorious case of actor Jussie Smollett -- a case abandoned under peculiar circumstances that imply Foxx improperly gave the celebrity special and unfair treatment by dropping charges that he had faked and lied about a racist, homophobic attack by supporters of President Trump.
The effort by Foxx's office to pre-empt appointment of a special prosecutor only intensifies questions:
What's the full list of outsiders who sought to influence Foxx? Who motivated a politically connected lawyer to contact Foxx? Is there a back story to the state's attorney's nonrecusal recusal? Why did Foxx tell reporters they had a strong case against Smollett only to abandon it? How often do Cook County defendants facing felony charges "get similar arrangements?" Who in Foxx's office or the judiciary played some role in the secretive court session to drop charges against Smollett and seal the court file? And, crucially, was the person in Foxx's office who decided to take Smollett's case before a grand jury the same person who later decided to drop all charges against him?
For lack of an outside judge overseeing the call for a special prosecutor, the people of Cook County -- of America -- are watching a lot of hometown maneuvering. The April 18 disclosure of internal emails and texts from Foxx's office reflected a state's attorney and staff so obsessed with how their decisions would look to the public that they didn't realize how their decisions would look to the public.
If Chicago judges keep a grip on a special prosecutor, they'll have to forgive all the citizens who conclude that the justice system dished out a sweet deal.

Let it go downstate to Quincy, IL.
She could have just had one of her lieutenants come out and say, “No reasonable prosecutor would bring charges.”
At this point...what difference does it make?
I hope they string her up. She gave special treatment to a celebrity none of us would have received. That needs to be firmly addressed and penalized.
This is the tip of the iceberg: this Soros funded prosecutor has let hundreds of criminals avoid jail or prison time and released them to prey upon Chicagoans over and over again.
This story was published yesterday, 16 May 2019: Judge, attorney question why woman charged with filing false police report isnt treated like Jussie.
No mention of interference/obstruction by someone related to a past administration? That’s the first aspect I would have questioned!
