Consider the possibility Bush attacked Iraq because saddam plotted to kill his father when he went to Kuwait to receive his reward.

How many American lives was it worth to carry out that act of retribution?

I’m 72 so my kids and grandkids have to fear the threat you laugh at.

Tell your kids and grandkids that they'll have the full support of us here as they climb into the helicopters and landing craft to invade Iran. LOL.

[I'm laughing because I suspect none of them have any such stake in these matters that cause you such anxiety at the age of 72.]

Get a grip, dude. Iran is a much smaller threat to peace and stability in this world than the United States is. LOL.

If he’s stationed anywhere other than our border with Mexico, then he’s wasting his time and energy.

“Trump on invasion of Iraq: ‘One Of The Worst Decisions In The History Of The Country’”

“Please explain them to us. “

1. They have killed 700 US service members in Iraq, a war in which they were not a principal.
2. They bombed the US Embassy in Beruit, killing over 200 Marines.
3. They captured over a dozen US sailors in international waters and kept them over a week.
4. They invaded US Territory in Tehran (Embassy) and kept dozens of US Citizens hostage for 444 days.
5. They have threatened, and practiced, to close the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping, through which 40% of the worlds oil passes. Upon closure the hit to economies in which the US Economy is inter-reliant would be enormous. Even Jimmy Carter, the peacenik would have gone to war over that (Carter Doctrine).
6. They have sworn to destroy the US and is in the process of developing nukes and missiles toward that end.

To name but 6.

And all with impunity.

“I voted for Donald Trump because I was tired of Ivy League globalist pr!cks running this nation’s foreign policy. Anyone who still thinks the invasion of Iraq was a good idea shouldn’t even be allowed to clean the toilets in the White House.”

Generally, and in most cases, I agree with you. However, in the case of Iran and Norklandia I make an exception.

1. They have killed 700 US service members in Iraq, a war in which they were not a principal.

What business did the United States have in Iraq? If the Chinese invaded Mexico, do you think we'd have something to say about it?

2. They bombed the US Embassy in Beruit, killing over 200 Marines.

What business did the U.S. Marines have in Beirut? And wasn't this the attack where the suicide bomber was able to drive a truck loaded with explosives through the guard post because the Marines assigned to guard the place were not allowed to have ammunition in their guns?

(P.S. -- I know the answer to the second question is "Yes." I was in high school at the time, and it's one of the primary reasons why I refused to pursue an appointment to one of the U.S. military academies. The idea of putting my life in the hands of some incompetent @sshole in Washington never appealed to me after that.)

3. They captured over a dozen US sailors in international waters and kept them over a week.

Neither one of us has any idea what really happened there -- do we?

4. They invaded US Territory in Tehran (Embassy) and kept dozens of US Citizens hostage for 444 days.

That was 40 years ago. How many countries has the U.S. invaded around the globe -- either directly or through covert military operations -- since then?

Are you saying the U.S. should go to war over someone else's oil supplies?

6. They have sworn to destroy the US and is in the process of developing nukes and missiles toward that end.

They have? It's a wonder I even manage to sleep at night over this.

Maybe that's true for you. For me, principles don't have exceptions.

Yes, but a renegade country attempting to obtain a small number of nukes, and won’t desist, (and there are people with sense in charge here) invites an utterly devastating 1st strike. There’s no “lightly” about it. “Nuke proof” is nonsensical thinking if you get blasted to bits first.

Saddam was less about “regime change” than making an example. It worked well, too, but then we got fuzzy and lost our focus.

If allowed to occur, a nuclear arms RACE (and that’s exactly what it will be without early, forceful if need be, intervention) in the ME will be disastrous, and not just to the ME, Israel, etc.

Granted, much of the time we just have people in charge who mostly kick the cans down the road, or make the problems worse. The whole “Arab Spring” bit is an example of the latter. There, I think we agree.

Finally, sorry, listen again to what they (Iran) preach. True, it too is a divided country, but, the “moderates” really have limited control.

I agree about Iraq. As i said earlier. We should have invaded Iran because of terrorism and now because they are a direct threat to israel and us. When they threaten us and are developing weapons with the money Obama gave them back, i take the threat seriously. why wait to see if they can test nuke successfully or their ICBNs reach europe?

Great link there.

If President Trump is even thinking about military action against Iran, then he may as well just go ahead and name William Kristol and Jennifer Rubin as co-managers of his 2020 campaign.

No, “elements of the Saudi government”. Not the ones who (at least then and for now) hold the upper hand. The closest parallel I can think of here are the internal forces here attempting to dump Trump, although of course the structures of the gov’t there are different.

Do you assign blame to Trump for crap that, say, Comey pulled — while on the FBI payroll?

Some FReepers are REALLY, REALLY bad about looking at things (countries, etc.) monolithically. Almost as bad as some libs.

A large scale nuclear race in the ME, a probable sequence if undeterred, most certainly WILL leave your descendants at a minimum dealing with serious fallout drifting here.

I have not lost sleep about it, though, since Trump took office. :-)

As for oil, you have apparently no clue about the ramifications if that billion dollars of oil going through the strait every day, stops for long. Try thinking more than one or two steps down the line, for God’s sake. You seem capable. But, don’t listen to my analysis. Reason it out, yourself. What if... Let us know what you come up with, but if you come back in less than a day — you have likely considered it too flippantly.

You can't have it both ways.

If the oil is that important then the Iran deal brokered by the Obama administration looks like a master stroke of diplomacy.

Which is it?

“We should have obliterated Iran after the barracks bombing. For all of the good President Reagan did, this was appalling to just lob some Battleship NJ salvos into Lebanon. Iran also is responsible for shape charge IED’s in Iraq and Syria resulting in more American soldiers murdered.”
