The DA’s letter says: "Criminalizing poverty is counter-productive for our community’s health and safety. For that reason, this office will not prosecute theft of personal items less than $750 unless the evidence shows that the alleged theft was for economic gain."

Please use your cell phone to order and pay for your merchandise.

Show the order number on your cell phone to the window clerk.

Retrieve your merchandise from the window drawer after the clerk has placed your order into it and pushed it outward.

Thanks for shopping at Dallas Discount Department Stores.

In NYC the policy used to be the store could ask you to pay five times the amount stolen.

If you failed to agree to pay or to pay you would be prosecuted.

Dear public employee pensioner:

Your pension check has been reduced by $749.99.

Instead of $830.00/week, you will be getting $80.01/week.

Shoplifting alone costs retailers close to $50 Billion a year. All of the new Soros planted Attorney Generals like this POS in TEXAS have instituted these asinine Social Justice BS items. Our cities are completely lost. They hold the politics/population/demographics that will eventually make the GOP irrelevant nation wide.

The smartest bet is for store owners to network, then when they catch a shoplifter, take their picture and put them on their net, before kicking them out of their store. Then use some cheap facial recognition software for their customers, and if it alerts, once an employee has confirmed it, kick them out before they can steal anything.

Then let the network know they are in the area, so everyone else will be looking for them.

It is strongest if they live in an area, but can no longer shop there. If they refuse to leave, the police will gladly issue them a trespassing warning. If they ignore that, they will get a big fine, and maybe a judge will create an injunction against them.

If they violate the injunction, the kid gloves come off, and they appear before that judge charged with contempt of court, which is a “direct to jail” no prosecutor needed for as much as six months.

IF NOT for economic gain”””

SOMEONE had an ECONOMIC LOSS !!!!!

Stupidest legal language I have ever heard.

OF COURSE it is for economic gain——they got what they wanted by stealing it & NOT paying for it. Doesn’t that make economic gain???

You steal a bale of hay from me that cost me $15, I will shoot you.

Poverty isn’t a legal excuse for stealing.

And further not everyone who steals is poor.

This just means anyone can steal if its under a certain dollar amount.
