Democrat Marie Newman, after spending several months exploring a rematch against Rep. Dan Lipinski, D-Ill., on Tuesday made it official and said she would run again for the seat, setting up the biggest Chicago-area congressional 2020 primary.
The 3rd Congressional District race comes in what may well be a different political climate, with Newmans progressive wing of the party gaining strength. Cheri Bustos, D-Ill., is committed to supporting incumbents, a policy some activist freshmen Democrats oppose. [

Thats the way it works here in IL. Put another challenger on the ballot to siphon votes away from the real challenger. That way The Machine incumbent wins.

a) for all intents and purposes, this is no Republican party in the city proper
b) Lipinski is one of the few donkeys in existence who is reliably pro-life - they will be after his butt forever.

He’s probably the closest thing to an old school type dedmocrat there is...at least in illannoy. “Inherited” his seat from his old man.
dummocrap vs dummocrud.
The HR5 vote should be an issue 2020 not just in Chicago but in other states where there have been democrat flips of former Republican House seats as well in conservative areas.
