The Second Amendment doesn't say that gun ownership has to be free of charge (barf alert)

It’s just a fact of life that handguns are now permanent legal fixtures in the American landscape. We have to live with that.

But the freedom to own a firearm doesn’t mean it has to be free of charge. It doesn’t mean that owners can’t be a tiny bit inconvenienced. And someone’s right to own a gun certainly does not trump the safety rights of the rest of us.

This is what the pro-gun people don’t seem to understand.

Gun rights advocates in Illinois are in an uproar over legislation that is being debated in the General Assembly. The bill simply would make it harder for people who aren’t supposed to have guns to legally obtain them.

The amendment to House Bill 96, sponsored by Rep. Kathleen Willis, is one of several bills introduced in the aftermath of a multiple shooting at a manufacturing warehouse in Aurora in February.

Of course, we don’t know if stricter state laws could have stopped 45-year-old Gary Martin from shooting five co-workers to death, in addition to injuring five police officers, after learning he was to be terminated. But many Illinois residents are demanding that our lawmakers at least give it a try.

Which of our freedoms explicitly state “free of charge”?

Well, except voting poll taxes, right?

“shall not be infringed”

The Tribune now owes me money for the right to write this article.

What a numbskull.

It's called NICS, and it already exists.

If they're stealing them or buying them out of the back of a Cadillac, no local/state/federal law is going to stop that.

These people are just stupid.

We're pretty sure it wouldn't have, but that's not the issue, is it.
The issue is to use every single incident as an excuse to take guns away from law abiding folks.

This dope will now charge a toll when one comes out of the womb because the “right to life” doesn’t mean it should be free of charge.

You have to pay to exercise free speech? You have to pay a surcharge if you don’t want soldiers quartered in your house? You have to pay extra for a speedy trial?

Dumbass.

Well if rights can come with a bill, let’s put a $10 fee on freedom of religion. You just have to roll into the ISP district, fill out a form, display your paperwork and get your religion permit for five years. NOW we’re ready to daven!

Think religion doesn’t kill people? Let’s talk to the 3,000 people who died in the 9/11 attacks.

Ok.

If 2A is not absolute, neither is 1A.

I’m sure the Fake News won’t mind having to pay the government for each and every story they make up; or, on the very rarest of occasions, report.

If it were free of charge, the govt would provide the guns and ammo. I’m willing to pay for both of them.

That’s precisely what it does.

By this logic the Tribune must be ok with poll taxes.

The important questions are:
Replace gun ownership with voting. How about enacting the same requirements and restrictions for voters as you want to enact on the backs of law abiding citizens.

How much more difficult are you making the law abiding citizen, someone who SHOULD have access to a firearm is the process going to be.

I propose that the bureaucrats, elected, and appointed officials who make it more difficult to legally procure firearms be make legally and financially liable for deaths and injuries of anyone prohibited from getting a firearm in a timely manner, should they be waiting when attacked by a criminal.

Mark

No, it’s stronger than that. It says the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. To keep and bear ARMS means whatever armament is available; NOT just flintlocks. Not be INFRINGED means NO pointy-@$$ed, commie lib, power grabbing limits. Case closed.

Nothing like a racially-tinged article talking about how “most gun owners are white.”

How much gun crime in Chicago is committed by black people?

As a matter of fact, it does. "...the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." This is an absolute right reserved to and by "The People". In no uncertain terms it prohibits any unit of government from meddling with this right (such as the article promotes). And it applies to all "arms", which include firearms.

VOTING for your own governance is a privilege (not a right) given to you by the Constitution.

Having sufficient means of providing and defense of God, home and country is a right given by virtue of birth to each person according to their status as human.
