Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
The Telegraph ^ | 15 APRIL 2019 | David Chazan, Paris James Rothwell

Notre Dame cathedral has caught fire, according to the Parisian fire service and eyewitnesses.

Footage posted online shows a large fire engulfing the upper part of the cathedral, with the flames licking around its two bell towers.

A major operation was under way, the fire department added, while a city hall spokesman said on Twitter that the area was being cleared.

Officials in Paris said the fire could be linked to renovation works being carried out at the cathedral.

It comes after France's Saint Sulpice church , used in the filming of Dan Brown’s ‘Da Vinci Code’ thriller, caught fire in March.

Bet more on the Left will blame it on Global Warming than on Muslims.

Possibility. This early nothing should be ruled out.

I looks like the “towers” might be spared, but who knows...

“The French 9-11”

Exactly. Sheppie couldn’t allow that to be said.

Le Monde is reporting that the fire started in the attic/s.

For what that’s worth.

Trace Gallagher on FNC makes a point...

Something as historic as this building would have teams of people cataloging every nail being removed, every stone, every piece of wood, if this were a true historic renovation.

Where were these teams of people? Are there no eye witnesses to the original spark if this happened at an active renovation site?

A spark from temporary lighting or from extension cord would presumably be from a light or a cord being used at the moment. This work would be going on during late afternoon on the Monday before Easter weekend. Is this a heavy workday for a church restoration team, or would the restoration be stopped for church services preparation?

Exactly. Will Macron use it as an excuse to suppress the Yellow Vests?

It was an elected French official who was being interviewed. I doubt he was scared by Sheppie - after all, the drama queen slammed the phone in his ear.

This stuff used to be Bush’s fault, now, of course, it’s Trump’s fault. Will most likely be blamed on Trump’s 9/11 tweet.

I fully agree with you—1600 might have been a little too on the long side, but I’d put the burning down the house moment in terms of the culture from 1789-1791. 1400 or 1500 years might have been a better choice of time.

Notre Dame is the fruit of the culture at its maturity, and it has stood as a witness as the culture decayed.

I hate to see it go, but in some ways it is poetically fitting.

We can build neither the buildings nor the culture that our forebears did. Sometimes it is good to be reminded of this.

It was ME who got scared of Shep.

Of course I am joking.

Shep can’t scare anyone.

Why waste a plane and a couple of jihadis when a couple of propane torches bought from Le Depot de Home will do the job?

I dunno. His regime is pretty precarious. Too much of a shove against the vests may cause a lot of French to rediscover their Gallic roots.

Where were these teams of people? Are there no eye witnesses to the original spark if this happened at an active renovation site?

... and why couldn’t they nail the fire before it started burning the whole place down?

When does Shep go home to his boyfriend? His drama-queen wailing is getting too much to stand.

Macron’s on the scene. Meeting with police. Someone on twitter claims to have a photo from an hour prior, shows two men (workers?) on top of the scaffolding. Little else going on on the outside.

PAGING SHEPPARD SMITH.....PAGING SHEPPARD SMITH:

Did you know that some 50 churches in France were vandalized just during the month of February?

NOTRE DAME CATHEDRAL BURNING: Is the Islamic State (ISIS) making good on its threat to attack French landmarks like Notre Dame?
In France, 50% of the French jihadis who fought abroad with ISIS re-engaged at some point in terror networks after they returned, and all major terror plots foiled in France since 2000 involved Muslim returnees. Such plots included the Strasbourg Cathedral Plot in 2000, the U.S. embassy bombing plot in 2001, a chemical attack plot in 2002, and plans to bomb the Eiffel Tower and the Notre-Dame Cathedral in 2010.

“Good grief... frigging Hannity, TOO?”

Amazing. As long as it didn’t happen in their Manhattan bubble they couldn’t give a rip. A collosal negative event in the annals of western civilization. Hope France wakes up....we didn’t even after 9/11.

I wouldn’t be surprised if muzzies were recruited to work on the cathedral in order to show we Catholics aren’t “prejudiced”!

Catholic churches in France are the property of the French government. I'm sure the government made the decisions about who worked on the renovation. You can fill in the blanks.
