As Al Sharpton’s National Action Network held their conference in New York this week, an array of 2020 Democratic hopefuls showed up to address the audience. Among them was Bernie Sanders, who may or may not be an actual member of the Democratic Party, depending on what day of the week you ask him. He clearly knew what sort of red meat the audience was craving, and ditched his usual platform points for a while to deliver the sort of attacks on President Trump that draw the biggest applause at such gatherings. In some of his sharpest language yet attacking President Trump, Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders accused the Republican president of being racist and sexist and much more during a speech before Al Sharpton’s National Action Network.
“It gives me no pleasure to tell you that we have a president today who is a racist, who is a sexist, who is a homophobe, who is a xenophobe, and who is a religious bigot. I wish I did not have to say that. But that is the damn truth,” the independent senator from Vermont said on Friday…
“During Donald Trump’s presidency we have seen a sharp rise in hate crimes and that rise comes as this country continues to be plagued by institutional racism and racial inequality,” Sanders stressed.
There’s not much new or particularly noteworthy in Sanders’ address and it could have been lifted from almost any other candidate speaking at the event. He did join in with the rest of the Democrats in answering the one question that was put to each and every one of them. Would you support reparations for African-Americans? Of course he would. And the rest of the field said the same thing. That was a switch for Sanders, however. He rejected the idea of reparations in 2016 and was still doing so as recently as this winter. I suppose someone must have reminded him how poorly he did with black voters during the last primary.
Speaking of “the rest of the field,” there were enough 2020 hopefuls there to kick off the debates rather than waiting for this summer. NAN is hosting Sanders, Kamala Harris, Julian Castro, Andrew Yang, Beto O’Rourke, Pete Buttigieg, Corey Booker, Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Amy Klobuchar. I mean, the gang’s (almost) all here.
Now for the $64,000 question: Why? Why is the Democratic Party still trapped in this endless, self-destructive relationship with Al Sharpton? Going back to his earliest days and throughout his entire career, Sharpton has been a race-baiter, a hate crime hoaxer, a tax cheat and a fraud. He’s one of the most divisive figures in the country and his pet organization has been weaponized to threaten racism complaints and protests against companies who didn’t donate to NAN. And let’s not forget that he had the audacity to “lease” the rights to his own life story to the organization on his way out the door just so he could drain more cash from it.
In short, Al Sharpton has spent his life trying to help people… provided those people were named Al Sharpton. But for some reason, his convention is basically a required stop if you want to run for the Democratic presidential nomination. I get that all of the candidates want to maximize black voter turnout in their favor, but there are so many other worthy organizations out there actually trying to help black citizens. This entire display is an embarrassment to the Democratic Party and it’s a tradition that should come to an end.
Pitiful.
Disgusting. Since when has it become a “must” for election to kiss the behind of a racist, rabble rousing bigot who is also a big time tax fraud? Whose bread and butter is racial hatred, not bringing a nation together? Anyone who feels it necessary to kiss Sharpton butt should automatically be scratched from one’s list of decent candidates.
Many years ago there was a discussion about how Sharpton and Jesse Jackson were vying for the title of “king of all blacks”. After Jackson’s love child was exposed (payback for the Bush II DUI story), Sharpton won that race; he went from being an unemployed NYC agitator to an unemployed national agitator. Nearly 25 years ago he incited the Freddie’s Fashion Mart massacre in NYC (8 dead), but the media whitewashed that along with the Tawana Brawley scam.
Sanders and the rest of the Democrats might as well tell black people they'll give them hover cars as well. We'll never hear the word "reparations" mentioned by any Democrat running for any office once the primaries are over.

I’m just totally cynical. I think the Democrats want blacks to be slaves on their little plantation. The have no desire to help blacks rise up and be strong and independent. They want blacks dumb, poor and submissive. Sharpton knows that there’s money in that deal. So Sharpton manipulates the inner-city blacks and the Democrats treat him like he’s important, and they send money his way.
Everbody’s happy. Except the blacks. They get a raw deal. But that’s the plan. That’s how this is supposed to work.

It’s like a fruitcake. Full of nuts & fruits & saturated with cheap booze, it manages to make itself front & center of every photo shoot event. It never is taken seriously (hell, who wants a FRUITCAKE FORGAWDSSAKE. OR a guilty white pawn?

We won’t, but you can be sure they will; remember that get-together where white people were denied entrance? What do you think they were discussing?
I don’t believe white guilt even exists anymore; we’ve been paying de facto “reparations” for half a century, with horrible results - and only earned more racial hatred and worse socio-economic status for blacks for our troubles. Some people feign “white guilt”, but what they really feel is the admission to themselves that assimilation is completely hopeless. For every one that can cut it in today’s modern economy, there are 100 who’ve given up on even trying. Ongoing affirmative action with no end in sight tells them outright that they CAN’T compete on a level playing field; our government has spent decades pushing policies implicitly stating blacks (and women) are genetically inferior to white and Asian men.
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.
It is pandering, I’ve never heard anyone who openly speaks of “white privilege” advocating relocating blacks to their neighborhoods, their children’s schools, etc. - AND THEY NEVER WILL. Like “protecting the environment”, it is to force a lower standard of living on us little people, not our political elites.
