How much does building the wall cost...all you have to do is kill commerce to the tune of the cost of the wall and Mexico will have to make some tough decisions. No one in the country wants to sacrifice anything for any reason. If war ever comes to the shores surrender will be swift.

“Closing the border to legal commerce would be devastating to Texas. Millions of jobs, in Texas and across the country, depend upon trade with Mexico, and the federal government shouldn’t do anything to jeopardize those jobs,” Sen. Cruz said.

Yeah, Ted... well maybe the people with those “millions of jobs” would be better off working for an AMERICAN company doing whatever it is they do. Then we all profit instead of some greedy scumbag corporation and their pocket politicians.

“U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said in a statement he is against closing the border to slow the flow of South American migrants and asylum seekers. “

Ted Cruz is against solving the problem.

So Ted Cruz is an enemy of the American people.

Be advised: MOST Canadians are out friends!

Ted, I’m happy that the people who are pouring into Texas, with all the accompanying crime, drugs, rape in numbers that are beyond belief are not causing...”Devastation to Texas.”

Perhaps, you have an alternate plan???

OK Ted. You’ve been an excellent conservative but how much help have you been in helping the President secure the border?

I hope you aren’t becoming another John McCain or Jeb Bush. (sore loser)

And here I thought Texas was so bountiful it could grow all its own food, pump and refine all its own petroleum, and be totally independent of any outside trade. No?

AND...the point is to deprive Mexico of trade with the US so they will step up the efforts to stop the flow of migrants through Mexico to the US border.

“We treat Mexican citizens the way they treat Americans when we go there” Your reply: baloney! How many Americans are fleeing south to mexico illegally and getting on mexico govt helps?

Below is the original statement which you’ve taken out of context which clearly demonstrates you have no idea what reciprocity means or is about .

In the hundreds of postings here in Free Republic rarely is this brought up. It’s Known As Reciprocity. We treat Mexican citizens the way they treat Americans when we go there;

Besides being unable to vote one must also be a citizen to own land and Mexico is very restrictive about granting citizenship. Because of that a US citizen besides not being able to vote, and cannot have title in their name to any land property in Mexico. And until that is changed the US and the affected state should consider making that reciprocal. Prohibiting any illegal entrant employment, voting, and land ownership privileges fully enforced ..
In other words Sneak into this country before expulsion no job no voting no landowning ..

Closing the border would have a far greater impact on Mexico thank the US. The US market and exports headed by truck to Canada, account for about 80% of Mexico’s exports. Turn the taps off completely until Mexico surrenders.

The Texas economy is very strong. As a Texan, I’m fine with “taking one for the team”. We can take the hit in the short term if that’s what it takes.

I honestly don’t feel that if the border gets closed that it will stay that way for long. Mexico will find the resources to stop the flow if enough pressure is exerted.

Ted Cruz took an oath to protect and defend the US constitution... Ted Cruz is a typical politician ... his ‘bank account’ first... those illegals he is so fond of do NOT stay in Texas.

Don't worry Senator Cruz, Texas will weather the storm.

Shutdown the border

Would be a partial stopgap - won’t fill in the holes in the border ‘walls” and will require a huge slowdown to properly inspect everything coming in as ‘commerce”....
