Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen abruptly resigned Sunday, as the president continues to fume over continued illegal border crossings. CBS News first reported Nielsen's impending departure, which Mr. Trump confirmed in a tweet after a 5 p.m. meeting with Nielsen at the White House.
Nielsen's resignation is effective immediately. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan will serve as acting DHS secretary, Mr. Trump announced.

What would we do? Conquer Mexico? Think what an awful mess that would be. You’d have 100,000,000 refugees heading to our border.

I suspect that she might not have the inner stamina to go full blast for that last measure of effort to secure the border, during a withering counter effort from the Dems/socialists/Marxists/Soroses/you-name-its.
Again, I do suspect that she's a good person, perhaps in the wrong office at a critical time.

The President can start a war on his own volition, but after a period of time Congress MUST agree and formally approve.
In January, as he border crisis was in full swing, that bimbo traveled to Davos. Why in hell would a DHS secretary need to go to Davos?
Good riddance.
Or a state can declare war on Mexico, and I believe congress has no say in the matter but I am not certain. I think any state in the union except perhaps for Alaska or Hawaii certainly has reason to do so.
Invade about mile in, declare it a depopulated DMZ, enforce a no-fly zone within 25 miles of the US border, drop a big load of 2000 pound JDAMs on all the well known HQ haciendas of cartels, seize the assets of banks that have knowingly served the cartels.
There is lots we could/should do.
Nielsen was a Bushie and NeverTrumper. Kelly recommended her to fill his slot at DHS when he moved to the WH. Nielsen was never onboard when it came to tough border measures and stronger interior enforcement. She was an amnesty supporter.
Trump is cleaning out the Swamp.
Put conservatives in charge of Mexico and it would be worth more than CA, FL, and NY combined.
With proper farming tech Mexico could feed the world.
Trump is just getting the right people for tough jobs.
Imagine if everyone in Washington was qualified for each and every job position.

Trump rejected the male Immigration Czar nominee and pulled his nomination, for his (POTUS) preference for taking a “Tougher direction”, he said.
That incident (imho) was a salvo fired directly at Neilson! Trump should not have had to hire a danged Immigration Czar.
This other guy had 30 years of experience and wasn’t “tough enough”.
Neilson got the Message.
She was a Bushy and a foot dragging incompetent, who failed to clean out the Open Border hold overs in her department, and was Never prepared for a crisis. Trump had to run her building and his own.
For some political reason he didn’t think it advantageous to fire her, outright, so the squeeze was on. Bout time.
Trump has a horrible record for getting the right people for the right jobs.
His theory of hiring military generals has been an utter disaster.
President Trump has a knack for exposing people for being utterly incompetent, and, or, double minded... who else was he going to 'hire' to fulfill these positions? What President Trump has exposed is a bevy of two-faced liars, who will not serve their sworn Constitutional duty... It is either a 'religious', political, educational or economic loyalty the majority are aligned. Sure is not the oath of office they took. The Constitution protects and serves every US citizen... that is until the lawyers took over and decided they were the 'gods' of US.
Capture Mexico then turn it into a Nuclear test site!
