Eliminate a trillion dollar pipeline from Taxpayers to Insurance Companies?

Yeah right.

A little secret: the GOP is perfectly happy with this arrangement and will NEVER repeal it.
In fact, in an election or two they will be calling it McCain Care.

Whatever they have to do keep it alive.

What a jerk. Obamacare has put health insurance nearly out of the reach of working people, such as my daughter and her husband. They’re young, healthy and self employed, but their monthly payment talkes a stunning bite of their income. It used to be manegeable before Obamacare because they got a reasonable rate for their level of risk. ... but then, this whole Obamacare program was about punishing the middle class (at least those who weren’t members of big name Dem unions).

The problem with health care has more to do with demographics than anything politicians can fix. There's just too many Boomers getting old. There is no solution that doesn't leave a bunch of angry people who are going to get screwed, and these people aren't neatly divided along (D) and (R) lines.

McConnell's greatest fear is losing the Senate and if he thinks this is the price he'll pay, he's not going to take the chance.

Better to keep kicking the can.

Isn’t this a given with no control of the House? We cannot win that debate no matter what. Why turn it into a battle that the left holds the edge on?

It is an exercise in futility with a Dim house. What would be the point?

Trump said he does not want to mess with ObamaCare over the next two years since there is no point after having lost the House.

I wondered why Trump was going down the path to a dead end.

Good analysis.
Medicare and Soc Sec have an 82 Trillion deficit over the next 3 decades. The typical Medicare recipient gets 3X out what they put in...but since all the tax money is spent immediately there’s no gains from investment interest.
But nobody is going to fall on that grenade.

Good question. Maybe because Senator Mitch “We’re going to repeal Obamacare Root and Branch” McConnell ran on the issue? I don’t like being lied to. I will not support a political party that does pursue the agenda we elected them to advance.

Wrong. McConnell’s greatest fear is being forced to support the MAGA agenda that the GOP donor class hates. He’s just fine with the GOP being the minority party.

Next it'll be "Well there's no point in doing anything since we don't have 60 votes in the Senate."

I don't believe that. Mitch McConnell sees his legacy in President Trump's judicial picks. He wants to keep this legacy growing.

It's all political theater at this point. The window for repealing Obamacare closed when the useless Paul Ryan handed Nancy Pelosi the Speaker's gavel 30 seconds after the polls closed on Election Day.

Nothing happened when the GOP controlled the House either.

Just as well; the Senate could pass the most perfect health care bill ever and Nancy Pelosi would not budge on it, and the democrats would use it as a campaign issue to smear Trump next year.

Turtle used to say we couldn't repeal bammycare because we didn't have the means to do so.

In 2010 the GOP got the house. Mitch said we couldn't do anything because we didn't have the Senate.

In 2012 the GOP got the Senate. Mitch said we couldn't do anything because we didn't have the White House.

In 2016 the GOP go the White House.

Bammycare was never repealed then.

Me thinks Turtle needs to go.

As long as Aunt Nancy has the House, there won’t be health care change. We got an inch away from it, but john McCain cast the killer vote.

Mitt has assumed the McCain vote.

There is no “next”. Without the House there is little legislation to be passed over the next two years we care about.

Trump has said the Republicans will be known as the Party of Healthcare. Going into the 2020 election, unless the GOP has a specific plan to run on then the Democrats will label them as the party who want to take away healthcare, take away pre-existing coverage, return caps on coverage, and take away healthcare from dependents. They will point to the administration support for the lawsuit to end Obamacare. In other words, everything that they said about the Republicans in the 2018 elections. So they can’t punt this to 2021. They will have to have something to say long before then.
