What started as an American phenomenon is now being felt around the world as U.S. oil exports surge to levels unthinkable only a few years ago.
The flow of crude will keep growing over the next few years with huge consequences for the oil industry, global politics and even whole economies.
OPEC, for example, will face challenges keeping oil prices high, while Washington has a new, and potent, diplomatic weapon.
American oil exports stepped up a gear last year, jumping more than 70 percent to just over 2 million barrels a day.
Oil traders and shale executives believe U.S. crude exports are set reach 5 million barrels a day by late 2020, up another 70 percent from current levels. ....more crude than every country in OPEC except Saudi Arabia.
Key for U.S. oil exports is China, mired in a trade war with Washington. Until this year, Chinese refiners were buying large chunks of American shale exports. But the flows all but dried up in August.

We will control prices and economies world wide. Likely we will see more influence through oil economics than we will with military might.
China, Iran, and Russia ought to be sweating it.
I well remember the OPEC oil embargo of the early 70s and the hardship it caused to all Americans.
Payback time. China, your're next.
Ping.
When the Democrats get back into power they’re going to do everything in their power to destroy America’s energy production.
We had to drive 20 miles in the middle of the night and get on the Florida Turnpike in order to get gas at one of the turnpike rest stops which the state made it a priority to have available.
Why is gas so expensive now compared to a month or so ago?
“We will control prices and economies world wide. Likely we will see more influence through oil economics than we will with military might.”
The oil embargo was a weird one for me. During the embargo, I worked at a Seattle tire store / gas station nights to support my community college tuition. I got off work at the same time the station opened. I’d just park at the pump, get off, and fill up the tank, being the first car in a long line.
I lived through the embargo and it never affected me.
Summer blending to accommodate Californian rules
Say, Ive got a crazy idea.
Americas refineries are almost at max capacity for light sweet crude which many were not designed to process.
America needs more gas than its refineries can produce.
America has plenty of light sweet crude with a lot more set to come in the next few years. So much so that oil companies are having to go abroad to search for customers.
Heres my idea. Why not build more refineries for light sweet crude right here in America where we have a lot of it and a lot of customers who need the gasoline? Its so crazy it just might work!
crude oil price has increased about 30% since the first of the year.
You guys on this board don’t know anything.
Gas is 2.40 on staten island.
The economy was ONLY doing well when it was 4.50.
That means the economy was hot!!
obama said so.
And the “impartial” audience at the debate laughed when obama said “if you want the economy to go back to being slow then you’ll get lower gas prices” or something like that.
And Romney didn’t destroy him for saying something so STUPID
Is there a reason, or is this just another speculation price hump?
How does this fit in with the green new deal?
We wont control anything. Maybe the owners of the oil and oil companies will control, their companies. I dont any oil do you? Oil prices will be determined by worldwide production and demand. US oil companies do not have pricing power so how will they control whole economys?
If the economy tanks prices will drop. That part O got right. Remember gas prices immediately after the Great Recession got underway? Prices went from 4 to under 2 in about 3 months.
Does President Trump have the guts to defy Iowa farmers and end Ethanol subsidies and blend mandates?
But why was it so HIGH under obama??
I KNOW. I was driving a cab for extra money and it was 4.50!!!!
Greed, no doubt.
Why are gas prices going up?
