While churches in secular countries like NZ and the UK are shuttered a social void is produced.
There is a human need for religion, something greater then us. The religion of secularism cannot exist with Christianity so it marginalized or destroys it. The void it creates has been successfully filled by Islam. Islam does not bow to secularism and has successfully established itself as a protected minority in every country it infects. Love them or hate them, you have to recognize there are no “Reform” Muslims, no gay based Muslim mosques and no socially woke Imams. There is only Islam. I am not equating Islam with a disease, but like a disease, we created the environment for the disease to incubate and then devastate a population.
This is one theory anyway and I first heard it in the UK back in the early 90s.

Not even remotely true. There’s a progressive series of permits involved depending on the arms in question, but everything up to functional machine guns can be had.
