Any time you see a 59-41 vote in the Senate, you can bet the in-party counted how many defectors they could afford then arranged to win it by one vote so the other senators could have cover before the voters if it came up as a campaign issue.
They can say “I stood up to the president but I couldn’t get enough others to join me on this.” Guaranteed that is what some of them are saying back home.

My opinion only which isn’t popular, but it’s my understanding he has upwards of $4 billion available without the emergency declaration. This year. Probably not worth a veto and making this a two year long losing issue when he’s got $4 billion to spend. I hope I’m wrong, but between disease, crime, and the costs of the ongoing invasion he can make the case politically without expanding emergency declarations to political issues which should be in the domain of Congress. Like additional spending, like it or not. Or the gun violence emergency, which is coming, but at least lacking precedent. I’d support a bill limiting emergencies to natural disasters and violent threats to the nation. But not right now, since the border does represent a violent threat. After a bill, which won’t be introduced, passes.
But they won’t save born alive infants!
He should hold a live “veto signing ceremony” flanked by victims of illegal immigration telling their stories, and the President saying after each story “How can anyone say that alone is not a national emergency”, stats on how many people can be killed by the enormity of the drugs flowing across the border, etc. between penstrokes of the veto that the press would be forced to cover live.
I can’t imagine any democrats bailing on Obama.
