SALT LAKE CITY — It's official: Utah's game.
The Utah House of Representatives in a late 42-32 vote Tuesday night gave final approval to a joint resolution calling for a convention to consider amendments to the U.S. Constitution.
The resolution, which does not need approval from Gov. Gary Herbert, adds Utah to the list of states seeking to convene a convention to propose amendments to the U.S. Constitution to address what the resolution's House sponsor, Rep. Merrill Nelson, called a "broken" federal government.
"The checks and balances in our Constitution have been stretched and broken," said Nelson, R-Grantsville. "All three branches are exercising legislative power. The courts are deciding matters of public policy. The executive is issuing executive orders, making law as we speak. And there's no way to challenge it."
In his pitch to his fellow House representatives to vote for the resolution, Nelson pointed out Utah's federal delegation have all said the federal government is "broken, it's dysfunctional, it's not working," due to gridlock in Congress and $22 billion of national debt.
"We need to push back," Nelson said. "How do we push back against the federal government?"
The only way, Nelson said, is invoking Article V of the Constitution, which allows two paths for amendments to the Constitution: through Congress, or through a special convention called by the states.
The state-led method has never been tried before, "perhaps because we've never been desperate as states to contain the federal government so much as we are now."

My personal favorite. They're adding a tax to health insurance premiums, both on the portion you pay and on the portion your employer pays for you. Not as imputed income, but as a "service."
The Mormons and Catholics in this State are SOOOO worried that the wall is going to keep out their global way of life, well then go find a country that you can live in, leave this State to the people who want a wall, want Our State to be safe for our children and grandchildren, want our schools to once again teach history of Our Country instead of re writing it...

Two years ago I would have been in favor of this. But having seen how the Rats have basically been running roughshod over the laws and ignoring the presidential election of two years ago, it’s pretty clear they will just corrupt this too.
And who are going to be the Americans’ leaders in the convention? Just look at the pathetic performance of the Republicans in Congress. Everything served to them on a silver platter and they screwed it up, even something so basic as repeal of Obamacare, which they had promised was their number one priority for years, where they could have just passed a one-liner: “Obamacare is hereby repealed in its totality.” They are all losers as far as I can tell.
The main reason I voted for Trump is that all the other “conservative” candidates were total useless weenies. They still are.
Is there any dispute that the Left firmly controls: education, the Goebbelsmedia, the Deep State, foundations, associations of all stripes, publishing, culture and worst of all -the churches?
Where is the chink in that armor and I am sure you could add more to that depressing list.
It should also be remembered that the CC was composed of dozens of patriots seasoned by the Revolutionary War, practical men. Federal officers, the Society of the Cincinnati, made up the leadership of the pro-Constitutional forces.

From what I understand it will take a 3/4s ratification for any amendment to become law. That is very difficult to obtain even in tranquil times and with an electorate split evenly, impossible.
Maybe you can clear something up for me..if the dim/rhinos ignore the USC as it now is..why would they follow a new and improved version?
Liberals have no power in this arena. They will never get 36 states to sign on to anything they advocate.
The only recourse that liberals have is to BL0CK conservative amendments and for that, they need 15 states.

Good question. For whatever reason, I’ve been lead to believe Article V proponents are for an end of the Electoral College.
But - flyover states are passing this Convention of States resolutions. And they would be the biggest losers if the E/C failed.
If the left could say repeal the 2nd Amendment this way, why haven’t they already done it?

Repeal of the 17A is an ideal start. A people covetous of their Liberty would meet in an Article V Convention every year, if for no other reason than to consider the latest Scotus decisions.
