Virginia first lady Pam Northam apologized Wednesday after she handed out cotton to black children during a recent tour of the governor's mansion, the latest racial controversy involving the top levels of state government.
Northam handed out the cotton while showing students an adjacent cottage to the residence that had once served as a kitchen, asking them to imagine picking the crop as enslaved Africans.
"I regret that I have upset anyone," Northam said. "I am still committed to chronicling the important history of the Historic Kitchen, and will continue to engage historians and experts on the best way to do so in the future."

Did she do it in blackface or white robe?
Did she had cotton to white students as well.
Does she always do tours?
Is she trying to get her husband removed from office?

Considering the nature of the tour, I would imagine it’s pretty routine to let people see and feel what cotton bolls feel like.
What a couple! He puts on blackface and as if that were not enough, poses next to a guy in a Klan outfit and explains it all away as having been in a Michael Jackson dance contest. She hands out tufts of cotton to the black kids. I’m surprised she didn’t hand out whips to the white ones.

Uh, oh looks like cotton candy is headed to the dog whistle pile of racist symbols. Who is the arbiter of what objects and words now constitute racist symbols to create false outrage? Is it the media on a slow news day looking to drum up controversy that would not otherwise exist? Racism much like beauty is now in the eye of the beholder

It doesn't matter—take away all the dress-up Halloween klansmen, take away all the cotton goodwill gestures, take away the "N" word, etc. None of it matters because it is never enough, and it doesn't improve the lot of the offended one cotton pickin' bit.
Apparently many (most?) lack the will to succeed, and they fully pin their future hopes on more "gubmint" handouts and "pogrums". God bless the 1 in 100 who have the ambition to persevere and succeed on their own.

Who cares about cotton and black face. The real and ignored issue is INFANTICIDE. They were one vote away.
