Trump on spending deal: 'We're building the wall anyway'
The Hill via MSN ^ | 11 Feb 2019 | Jordan Fabian

President Trump on Monday said he would build his long-desired wall along the southern border regardless of whether Congress approves funding for it. "Just so you know, we're building the wall anyway," Trump said at a campaign rally in El Paso, Texas, which sits directly across the Rio Grande from Mexico. Trump spoke shortly after lawmakers said they had reached a funding deal in principle to avoid another government shutdown set to begin on Saturday. The deal includes some money for barriers along the border. The president said he would not sign an agreement that cuts the number of detention beds used to house immigrants caught living illegally in the U.S. "If we cut detention space, we are cutting loose dangerous criminals into our countries," Trump said. "I will never sign a bill that forces the mass release of criminals into this country." Democrats appear to have dropped their demand to dramatically slash the number of beds, but the measure does not include Trump's full request for 52,000 beds.

It’s not. The Dems wanted the beds reduced to 16,500...a hell of a lot less than the 40,000 beds already approved by Congress.

..................................................

Catch and immediately send their criminal asses back across, no need for any beds.

“He’s not going to veto it. $1.4 billion is a lot more than “Not one dollar”....aka....the Pelosi/Schumer mantra.”

Yep. Trump will sign it.

We have about 49,000 beds right now. I think with some fast tracking, we can get down to the 40,000 number.

You mean get the number UP from 16,500 to 40,000?

Shelby sell out is a set up from day one .

Shelby wanted to cap the ICE Beds just as much as the Dems .

Its was a staged cheap labor express sell out farce.

I bet the Gope with Shelby proposed the ICE bed cap first .

Adios MF’ers!

Capping the ICE beds is a poison pill for PDJT. If the bill had included only $1.37 billion after Nancy said ($0), but no poison pills, Trump could have signed it and then finished the wall with the money he will use anyway. With the completely unacceptable poison pill, he will veto it and the gov will partially shut down again. He will be blamed for it. Republicans on that negotiating team know this. They must hate Trump, the swamp drainer, more than they love America or even the Republican Party.

trump should make a counter proposal: condemn the democrat infested gated communities and their walls, under eminent domain, and use the wall materials that are thus confiscated to build border walls.

if the democrats are true to their principles, they would scramble to man the bulldozers needed to implement this counter proposal.

Couldn’t agree more. Either it’s an emergency or not - he’s already lost a lot of leverage in the courts by dragging it out so long - he’ll give up the rest if ‘compromises’ here.

I don’t worry about the GOPe overriding Trump, as they know it’s a political suicide vote, a few will go with the Dems, but not nearly enough. It’s all up to Trump - the GOP will have his back, because they have no choice.

I read that the agreement is for 18% reduction in beds.

”Either it’s an emergency or not - he’s already lost a lot of leverage in the courts by dragging it out so long...”

I don’t see it that way. If I come home to find my house on fire, just because I initially grab a garden hose in response doesn’t mean I don’t need the fire department to ultimately get the job done. And grabbing the garden hose first says nothing about whether there is a true emergency. Trump is wise to get whatever he can out of this deal, and then fund the rest of the wall via emergency declaration or other method. Getting any significant funding now knocks Nancy and Chuck off their high horses and prevents them from using another “shutdown” for political propaganda. With that accomplished, Trump goes ahead and funds the rest via alternate means.
