Breaking: Rand Paul will vote against Trump's pick for attorney general
The Hill ^ | BY JORDAIN CARNEY

Posted on 02/11/2019 6:16:00 PM PST by RandFan

Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) said on Monday that he will oppose President Trump's attorney general nominee, becoming the first Republican to come out as a "no" vote on William Barr.

Paul told Politico that he had concerns about Barr's record on privacy, calling him a "chief advocate for warrantless surveillance of U.S. citizens."

A spokesman for Paul didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. The libertarian-leaning GOP senator had previously raised concerns about Barr, who also served as attorney general to President George H.W. Bush.

He is big time anti gun. That’s all the information needed to know that Rand is right. This guy is a swamp creature through and through. You can’t be as rabid anti gun as this guy is and not be a big government hack. Barr is another disaster appointment in the making, bank on it.

Yes, he has. He’s up for re-election in 2020.

Gun Owners of America doesn’t like this guy. He’s made many statements advocating for more gun control.

This is not strange chit-chat, it does not make one a so-called whiner, and your opinion is pretty nearly worthless, as evidenced by your lack of substantive input.

You can afford to like the first two years. You are not in solitary confinement, have not lost your house, or been raided by armed and armored thugs at dawn, simply for supporting Donald Trump.

Trump has accomplished much by executive action, but has allowed the Deep State to worsen. When he leaves office, all he has done can be undone - also by executive action. The rule of law is barely alive: The Cliven Bundy case, thrown out with prejudice, is being defended by this corrupt DOJ.

Anyone who thinks that supporting an agenda means unquestioningly saying yea to everything an elected official does is a mindless sycophant... IMO.

This is government By The People and For The People, not by the President and for the President.

If patriots had held the vaunted Ronald Reagan’s feet to the fire in 1986, we would not now have the illegal alien onslaught we now have.

If you want everyone in lockstep to your brand, I suggest you find another country. This is a Representative Republic, not a dictatorship.

Agree totally. Our President is getting bad advice on his appointees in the Justice Department.

It would be okay with me if Barr is not approved. But I do not matter....we have to have an Attorney General who will go after the injustice at the Justice Dept and FBI and go after HIllary’s crimes.

Agree about Rand being for Rand. He’s also anti-military.

President Trump should withdraw this nomination.

He can make do with an acting attorney general until he gets a good one confirmed, even if it takes until his second term to do so.

Nominate people like Jay Sekulow. No compromise.

I’m with RP on this. With so many great people out there, why Barr? I predict he’ll be another Sessions.

He’s also anti-military.

No, he's against wasting blood and treasure babysitting Muslims in the Middle East.

My problem with Whittaker is the 29 heavily armed FBI fuckers who went to terrorize Roger Stone and his 72 year old wife. Is this America or Nazi Germany?

This. President Trump is able to select really great judges but somehow, his brain freezes up when it comes to selecting his AG. He should let the same guys at the Federalist Society who have been helping him select great judges, help him select a great AG.

I know one thing... Barr’s voting record and “quotes” about gun control have been scrubbed and cleaned up at “on the issues”. Not sure I have ever seen this before and I have been using this site for reference for years. This was done for a reason, they are hiding something.

Rand is right. This guy’s an old Bush retread. Lousy pick.
==============

Barr's been around a long time, and a scumbag even longer. He was involved in getting immunity for FBI sniper & murderer Lon Horiuchi during the Rudy Ridge affair.

The gov still had to pay over 3 million to Randy Weaver for the wrongful murder of his wife, but Horiuchi was never prosecuted for shooting her in cold blood.

Good work Barr, the blood is still on your hands.

President Trump, why have you picked this foul, evil man?

I would recommend that you find another forum, that better reflects your opinions and your vision for this country. There are plenty of choices among the Trump Haters out there, you can choose from among many varieties, kinda like Baskins and Robbins.

The fact that so many Dems are willing to support Barr should probably set off some alarms for most Freepers.

One would think so. We know that Barr isn't much of a fan of the 2nd Amendment, among other things. Personally, I don't want him having a say over whomever may have to argue before the supreme court on constitutional questions.
