Supreme Court blocks Louisiana abortion clinic law
apnews.com ^ | 02/07/2019 | AP

The Supreme Court is stopping Louisiana from enforcing new regulations on abortion clinics in a test of the conservative court’s views on abortion rights.

The justices say by a 5-4 vote that they will not allow the state to put into effect a law that requires abortion providers to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals.

Chief Justice John Roberts joined the court’s four liberals in putting a hold on the law, pending a full review of the case.

The four more conservative justices, including Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, would have allowed it to take effect. Kavanaugh wrote a dissent explaining his vote.

The law is very similar to a Texas measure the justices struck down three years ago. Roberts dissented in that case.

I'm rolling my eyes over and over. No one agrees with anyone 100% of the time. Trump compromises and is not going to get his 5.7B for a wall. In the end, it will be half that maybe a bit more 3.0B, but that's fine. He can get some more next year.

Trump's not perfect. Now he says he wants a huge legal immigration. We need to cut legal immigration in half - at least - from 2 million to 1 million.

Eventually, the DACA kids will get amnesty, too. Just wait and see.

In a choice of two, such as Bush and Al Gore, Bush was the better choice and between Bush and Kerry, Bush was the better choice. I did not write anything about McCain or Romney. However, both of those are much more stringent with the budget. The large deficits (once again a trillion a year) don't bother Trump. There is no effort to reign in spending, so eventually it is all going to collapse, it is just a matter of when - 5, 10, 20 years etc.

You’d rather have R gun control and socialism than the D variety (or none, if Congress fights it), and tell us it is somehow different and better. A crap sandwich is still a crap sandwich. Hats off to you, there aren’t too many Bush fans still left around here.

5-4 is fine with me.

I can’t imagine that The Color Scale, Breyer’s French Vanilla, Wise LatinX, or the Kurgan, would abandon their Maoism on any issue of import, let allow the all-important “right to choose”.

I sure can’t wait until January 2019 for all of them to be hauled off to Guantanamo (sarcasm)

I think you may not be too far off from right.

Why is it that the Dem SCOTUS picks never fail to produce “as advertised”? Perhaps it is that we have so many fake conservatives in elected office, and they don’t want to reverse the trash that Obama pushed?

Too many 5-4 reversals invite a grassroots uprising to get the court back .... And the reversed decisions are re-instated by 5-4.

Is the Louisiana law worth losing the court over ? By laying down the gauntlet?

If Roberts tells the libs he is voting for a 5-4 reversal, one might agree to join him on a middle ground.
An additional reason why landmark decisions like Obergefell are so atrocious is becuz they are so difficult to reverse and have it stick.

The blood of innocent children now are indelibly on Roberts’ hands.

and the blood of women whose souls haven't been saved yet.

How silly. In a choice between Al Gore and Bush, it was Bush all the way and the same with Kerry. Is that difficult to understand?

Did you read what has been written about Bush as governor of Texas, here and elsewhere?

That he was *indistinguishable* from a Democrat?

That as Prez, he was *indistinguishable* from a Democrat?

That he largely surrounded himself with pro-abortion, pro-sodomy, anti-gun liberals?

We’ll actually never know if Gore would have been worse. Bush was a tough act to follow.

You can be a Bush sycophant. Free country.

I am just thankful we avoided Romney and McCain.

Bush was no conservative.

We REALLY need to start stressing the difference between R and C.

Young (pre )Justice Roberts with possible reason why he caters to the left. He’s being blackmailed for something, Perhaps it’s butt buddies.

Guess I don't get that from a picture? Not sure how you can.

It’s been posted here a FR hundreds of times by FReepers when Roberts possible blackmail is discussed being gay or having illegally adopted kids . It in itself doesn’t show anything. I post it as a commonly posted picture used when discussing a blackmail. Roberts is conceivable just a dick and a stealth leftist.

So I wonder what would happen if Louisiana AG said...”As we have no proof the RGB is actually alive or is of capacity to have voted on the matter, we feel that a fraudulent decision by the SC has been rendered. If proof of life of RGB can be strongly put forth by the SC, then we shall recognize this court decision as legitimate and shall respond to the court’s decisions as ordered. Otherwise, we shall consider the court’s decision as a 4 to 4 tie and will proceed with implementation of our law in question.”

It will force them to prove that RGB is alive and is of capacity including her recorded voice and signatures regarding her votes in question. They will need to show publicly that she is still alive or else create a constitutional crisis.

IIRC, Miers was nominated after Roberts. She withdrew and we got Alito. Roberts plus Miers would have sucked bigly.
