The ‘Ethics’ of Trump’s Border Wall - A wall would cause harm to immigrants and refugees

The ‘Ethics’ of Trump’s Border Wall

A wall would cause harm to immigrants and refugees, all of whom are equal to us in the eyes of God.

Is the border wall ethical? President Trump has suggested the wall is moral and those who oppose it immoral. His critics claim the opposite.

To answer this, we have to consider its effect on humans. What harm could a border wall cause to immigrants and refugees, all of whom are equal to us in the eyes of God?

Some people who cross the border are in desperate search of work to support their families. A wall would probably drive them into more remote areas of the desert or mountains, possibly to their deaths, as the forces driving them — violence, persecution and extreme poverty — are more life threatening than a risky border crossing. In fact, close to 8,000 migrants have died in Arizona and parts of Texas since the construction of the San Diego and El Paso sectors of the wall in the mid-1990s.

The latest arrivals at our border are primarily asylum seekers from the Northern Triangle of Central America, who, when they cross the border and ask for protection, are in compliance with both our domestic and our international laws — the Refugee Act of 1980 and the 1951 United Nations Refugee Convention and its 1967 protocols.

A wall would prevent asylum seekers from asking for protection at any point along our border — their right under the law — and would leave many of them at the mercy of drug cartels and other criminal groups in northern Mexico. More humane ways to achieve border security can be found to avoid these harmful consequences, through technology, additional legal avenues for entry and policies that address the factors pushing migration.

Don’t the Catholics in Central America have the responsibility to get education....perhaps self-education...and rear their children to take leadership in their countries away from the greedy aristocrats ? Are they so backward that the only thing they are capable of doing is to walk 3000 miles to become a burden to the American taxpayer?

No matter what the whining Catholic clergy accuses Americans of, they should blame the citizens of s**thole countries for being too cowardly to overthrow their corrupt governments for the sake of the next generation.

Do you really believe this, or are you trying to stir the pot?????

Is that a real question?

Okay, I'll let you decide.

Immigrants come in legally - a border wall isn't going to harm them in any way. Illegal aliens don't come in legally, and they're the ones the wall is intended to keep out - it won't harm them, either.

Maybe the Catholic Church should concentrate on finally, at long last cleaning up the massive, systemic problem of pedophilia in its clergy before it indulges in any more hypocritical moral preening.

Yes it was a real question. I’m curious if you really think the entire world are victims of America’s immigration laws.

It sounds as if you want to make statements, but not elaborate when engaged in discussion.

So is it evil or anti-Americanism (I know it is the same thing) that has infected the Catholic church?

“Some people who cross the border are in desperate search of work to support their families.”

That describes just about everyone who emigrated here via Ellis Island. They had so much love and respect for this country that they came legally, learned the language, assimilated socially, and didn’t expect handouts in order to survive.

I am so SICK of this debate. Everyone knows what’s right, but doing what’s wrong works better for some so they ignore the truth.

The central problem is homosexuality, not pedophilia.

This is important in several ways.

We have it on good authority that the floor of Hell is paved with the skulls of bad bishops.

Ask all the central american countries that have border walls this.

Ask China.

Ask Israel.

As about the ethics of invading a foreign country because you want to profit off of it for your own personal gain, and ignore all its laws.

I just say lets adopt all of mexicos immigration and border laws. Tougher than ours.

John 10:1

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber."

Those who dismiss this citation as Jesus merely speaking figuratively should know that a figurative meaning can only be conveyed if the literal meaning has already been accepted as an established truth.

We need to get rid of “loopholes” in our immigration law that keep us from enforcing it. Make it a felony to cross the border illegally from the first offense, secure those remote areas with something other than barb wire cattle fence.

Notice this whole article is about how hard life will be for people that break the law if we don’t decide to ignore our laws? I keep asking people to let me know when they start ignoring laws against robbing banks. I could use some extra money.

Does this ‘man of God’ have an issue with the Governor of Virginia saying that he supports dismembering babies, or is he too busy being part of ‘the resistance’ to notice?

Exactly what they are saying. Illegals are more important than our citizens. I don’t know how anyone is not getting that message.

unfortunately many non-catholic FReepers don’t know the difference. And it’s a big difference by definition and action, a small percentage of bad priests are pedophiles, most are homosexual. And less than 3% of priests abused children, it’s actually 1.8% below the national average of other professions...The teaching profession is 6%.
