The 20-million square foot campus was praised by President Donald Trump as proof of his ability to revive American manufacturing.

--

t campus marked the largest greenfield investment by a foreign-based company in U.S. history and was praised by President Donald Trump as proof of his ability to revive American manufacturing.

Foxconn, which received controversial state and local incentives for the project, initially planned to manufacture advanced large screen displays for TVs and other consumer and professional products at the facility, which is under construction. It later said it would build smaller LCD screens instead.

Now, those plans may be scaled back or even shelved, Louis Woo, special assistant to Foxconn Chief Executive Terry Gou, told Reuters. He said the company was still evaluating options for Wisconsin, but cited the steep cost of making advanced TV screens in the United States, where labor expenses are comparatively high.

"In terms of TV, we have no place in the U.S.," he said in an interview. "We can't compete."

Trump really needs to stand up, on the trade issue.

This is ridiculous.

Why do you think we have high minimum wages? It’s so Americans will stay out of work and China will be a stronger enemy.

1. It’s Reuters reporting this. Take it with a LARGE gain of salt. No, a salt lick!

2. Wisconsin has a new Governor. A Socialist promoted to his level of incompetence. He’s behind the rumors to appease his constituents who HATE the idea of Wisconsin being out of debt and back in business.

3. I’ll never understand Socialists. Ever.

Can't blame the company.

Trump and Congress needs to make the import tariffs Permanent.

If they are only temporary, then companies are incented to continue relocating to China.

Europe has lost it's tech companies too...

I can understand the costs being too high to compete with China, but that fact was known at the time of the promise, and the commitment to build the facility in Wisconsin.

I smell a ploy to make DJT look like a chump this coming election cycle.

Under Governor Walker, we were, 'Open For Business.'

Under Socialist 'Diamond Jim' Doyle (D, WI) before Walker and now Tony Evers (D, WI), We The People of Wisconsin are back to working for THEM! *SPIT*

I am not bashing Trump.

Just saying, it is high time for him to stand up on this issue.

I would suggest the new governor is reacting poorly to the gift that includes no union workers.

The union assholes are certainly behind the foxconn move. They have certainly made threats and will in fact work hard to see the plant is never operational without union workers

Foxconn needs to set-up in a Republican state.

If Dems are the problem.

But this is ridiculous.

Back when America was great, we had RCA, Magnavox, Zenith. The quality goes in before the name goes on. I don’t know if that’s coming back.

Know nothing of the 2018 governor's race. Family issues pretty much precluded any politics. Why, do you think, Wisconsin after Walker elected a classic tax, regulate and spend left Dem? Did the GOP present itself in its usual role as the Stupid Party and K Street stooge?

No. When the deal was going through Foxconn assumed that they could get Owens-Corning to come to WI and build a glass panel factory under the same terms, but the legislature said no more subsidies. So that was the end of that. Foxconn makes the high def screens using large glass panels which they get elsewhere.
