Dawn Marie Addiego has served in the state Senate since 2010. (Courtesy) Republicans' power in New Jersey just shrunk again.

In a rare and unexpected move, longtime Republican state Sen. Dawn Marie Addiego announced Monday she is switching parties and becoming a Democrat.

“As gridlock in Washington dominates the news, it has become increasingly clear that in order to effect change you have to be part of the discussion and not on the outside looking in,” Addiego, who has represented South Jersey’s 8th District since 2010, said in a statement.

“The people of the 8th District did not elect me to be content in the role of loyal opposition," the 56-year-old attorney added.

One must read the article to understand how stunningly idiotic Dawn Addiego’s reasons are for switching parties. Another embarrassment in my state. At one time, NJ was a conservative state, at least on the national level, we are just too far gone now.

Dawn, shove that BS where the sun don’t shine. All I want to know is how much did the state RATS pay her to switch parties. RINOs and fake Repukes can always be swayed if you throw enough $$$ their way. They don’t give a damn about their county, city, state, or country. Dawn Addiego is another northeastern Repuke worthless POS who found her true home with the sellout RATS!

Dawn was always a commie. They run on a false platform then switch sides. Not unusual but should be completely illegal. She’s NOT representing the people who elected her but we all know republicans are pussies and will just bitch on the internets.

Until legal action is taken , they’ll continue to win. Man up local republicans

I moved to NJ (becasue I had to) in 2004. In that time, I have seen a state completely waste away. The government in Trenton is insane.I can’t wait to be a NJ refugee and apply for asylum in a free state.

Gridlock?! The Democratic governor of NJ (Murphy) has not spoken to the Democratic Senate Leader (Sweeney) for months. Now Sweeney has challenged Murphy to a debate!

So she's against gridlock, and joins the party that is in gridlock with itself.

Bye, Felicia.

"The people of the 8th District did not elect me to be content in the role of loyal opposition,"

That's exactly what they did elect you for. If you had that mindset during the election, then you committed fraud on your supporters. Every penny of campaign contributions you accepted from them should be returned.

“I am utterly convinced, as he is, that New Jersey’s current fiscal mess cannot be fixed by putting our heads in the sand and pretending it does not exist,” Addiego said.

And, who the heck created that fiscal mess that NJ is in? It certainly wasn't a republican senate or legislature in NJ, was it, Addiego?

And, blaming Trump or Washington makes no sense whatsoever. NJ will only get worse with more democrats in control. Mark my words. Can't blame Trump then. Dimwit!

I am sure a ‘Soros’ type would pick up the tab BUT shouldn’t she be ‘forced’ -read sued- to return ALL the money the RNC or State chapter has given her for at least her last election?

And yes, I believe it should work both ways

After living in NJ for 40 years, to be near work in NYC, we retired 18 months ago to a state with more compatible political views, and preferable values. I agree. The NJ/NY life is not worth the hassle. Bye bye to the Northeast. Getting out was a great decision!

Because she was always a Democrat in philosophy and wearing an R jersey is no longer profitable.

Which just means she never really was either a Republican or a Patriotic American.

She is just now being honest about her Marxist world view.

They did not elect her as a democrat either.

How does she know? They DIDN’T, however, elect a democrat.

happens all the time. most politicians are more about power than principles. if by some miracle the GOP won back the state legislature she would switch back again.
