NHS will roll out electronic prescribing to curb 'global health emergency' of antibiotic resistance
The Telegraph UK ^ | 24 Jan 2019 | Laura Donnelly

Matt Hancock will on Thursday tell the World Economic Forum in Davos that “we are on the cusp of a world where a simple graze could be deadly”. Calling for it to be treated as a “global health emergency” he set out targets to cut use of the drugs across the country by 15 per cent within six years.

Simon Stevens, head of the NHS, said much of the change would be achieved by the rollout electronic prescribing across the health service.

The software means doctors are alerted to the most appropriate drugs for any condition, sparing them for when they are most needed. It also means health officials can detect areas that are doling out the most antibiotics – and put pressure on medics to cut down...{snip}

Government data shows that, since 2014, the UK has cut the amount of antibiotics it uses by more than 7 per cent and sales of antibiotics for use in food-producing animals has dropped by 40 per cent.

But the number of drug-resistant bloodstream infections has increased by 35 per cent from 2013 to 2017....{snip}

Under the plans, health officials will explore how a new payment model could incentivise firms....

The best part of the article in the continuing saga of what our leaders are learning at Davos, is the last sentence above. Why would Big Pharm need to be 'incentivized' when they have a captive audience ?

Lesson learned: Don’t get sick in England. You’ll be deader than a North Sea Herring.

They have taken over medicine. Pharmacies now continually override doctors scripts. They either change them or don’t disperse etc. It’s very different. I think they are using the opioid crisis as an excuse to control all medicine. Very big brother.

And if you ain’t in the privileged class (i.e. normal native Brits, as in the ones who supported Brexit), you’re f***ed.

That’s so true. Do you really think someone like Romney has a problem getting a script filled?

Nope. It’s as easy for him as helping elect Democrats.

About 90% of the entire world’s population is in countries without these controls.

Seems utterly pointless, to this poster.

Then again, I am not in medicine.

So maybe I just don’t understand.

Actually, I think you do understand. Many of the drug resistant strains of bacteria arise in third world dungholes where there are no limits on drug use, and people take whatever they can get their hands on. And the UK has indiscriminately allowed just anyone to enter.

At least one multiple drug resistant bacteria originated in India.

Not just in the UK. The war on antibiotics almost claimed one of my loved ones stateside. The patient developed sepsis and ended up in the ER before he could get an antibiotic for his UTI.

And it doesn’t take into account your reactions to meds, inter actions either. Not all meds play well together. I see 4 Specialist and it’s a balancing act to coordinated what they all 4 script. Add in I react to most of their crap. Even food inter acts with some meds.

Why the government has NO BUSINESS being involved in health care. None.

Overuse of antibiotics for every little sniffle is at fault, IIUC.

Yep. I like grapefruit and grapefruit juice, but one of my medications says to never take it while on the med. When I asked the doc why he said something in grapefruit increases the effect of the med. So naturally I asked could I cut the med dose on days when I had grapefruit. He said there's no way to monitor the individual effect.

That is what my ENDO tells me, no grapefruit, SOY, list of foods is longer though, walnuts, Broccoli family all interfere with Synthyroid. Having Gastropresis a paralyzed colon my diet consist of easy digest foods. Carbs are the easiest to digest but to many pushes you towards Type 2 Diabetes, and those meds are nasty. My oldest takes Metformin and hates it and has severe Neuropathy. Still has to work 50+ hrs a week on his feet.

In most of those places antibiotics can be purchased over the counter without a prescription so any attempted control is meaningless
