BuzzFeed Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith said Friday that he stands by the outlet's reporting following a rare statement from special counsel Robert Mueller's office disputing its report about allegations against Michael Cohen, President Trump's former lawyer.
"We stand by our reporting and the sources who informed it, and we urge the Special Counsel to make clear what he's disputing," Smith said in a statement.
BuzzFeed reported Thursday that Trump instructed Cohen to lie to Congress about the timing of negotiations over a potential Trump Tower in Moscow.
The story cited two federal law enforcement officials involved in an investigation of the matter.
Mueller's office rarely comments on stories related to the special counsel's investigation into potential collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia during the 2016 election.
BuzzFeeds description of specific statements to the Special Counsels Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohens Congressional testimony are not accurate, special counsel spokesman Peter Carr said in a statement obtained by The Hill on Friday night.
"This Plan Z can't possibly fail!"
I sent this comment on email to a couple of talk hosts including Rush Limbaugh once I saw that reported here in http:www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3720863/posts
According to Buzz Feed their sources were 2 investigators from the FBI. Before talking to the press aren’t they required to get clearance from their supervisor on what information they can release ?
I did not go into the implication of what that means but Mark Levin did.
Buzzfeed better hope this wasn’t a set up for criminal leaking.
I’d say this outfit is pretty much discredited.
Mueller is trying to stop a leak investigation, with polygraphs, of his team. Who knows what that would turn up. Trying to make it look like it could not have come from his team.
“A Leak Investigation was being teed up and Mueller has to face a Leak Investigation while Whitaker is still in charge, or move to correct his Spokesman encouraging the Reporting.”
‘Sorry, the information we leaked to Buzzfeed wasn’t reported correctly...’ How will that help Mueller after the fact?
Ever since that ludicrous CNN/Michael Cohen/Lanny Davis story last summer (which CNN still stands by even though Davis came out and admitted that he was the source and gave them incorrect information), I've considered another outlandish possibility: That Michael Cohen is involved in this whole mess for the sole purpose of putting wild accusations out there that can easily be debunked.
As Mark Levin said, the only possible source of the leak to BuzzFeed is Mueller’s office. It’s happened before. So they REALLY don’t want an investigation of how BuzzFeed got the fake story.
DC park police.
I said this on another thread tonight: "Wow, the libs will be putting some real hate on Mueller now." It didn't take long.
Why would anyone in Mueller's office leak something to a media outlet like BuzzFeed that has such a shoddy reputation?
Becuse tehy know BuzzFeed would put het story out without checking it.
LOL I have to admit Ive had the same thoughts but figured I was getting the conspiracy theory bug.
Per Prof. Allen Dershowitz tonight on Fox; Mueller had to refute the Buzzfeed report because it implies a leak came from the Mueller team and that would require/demand an investigation to find who on Muellers team leaked it. What a can of worms that would be for the deep state criminals.
Because even the NYT or Washington Post wasnt going to post that dribble. It was a bridge too far for even them
I love the fact the hate-Trump MSM doesn’t know who to believe?!!!! Jake Tapper already claiming they were skeptical when they aired the story...hahahah. MSM loves hate-Trump news (like the BuzzFeed story) and MSM also worships Mueller!
Get the popcorn Daddy!
