And there we have it.

There are over 1700 comments to this. You'll be surprised at how many "nativists" there are, once you lay it right out there.

Do away with welfare, food stamps, subsidized housing, free medical care and free schooling and then I would agree.

America is an aging nation with a stagnant population. [. . . ] And on the global stage, we face two colossi — India and China — which, with their billions, are projected to outstrip American economic hegemony within two decades.

Has he read Chinese demographic reports lately?

Imagine everyone being able to walk in the front doors of the New York Times and being able to freely wonder around the offices all day. Imagine being able to flop down in any unoccupied desk and making it your own.

I wonder how many of the morons who are for open borders would welcome bums coming into their houses and helping themselves to their possessions.

Hey Farhad Manjoo, leave your keys in your car ignition then embrace the first person that comes along and steals your car.

Would his open border idea work both ways (would conservative-minded U.S. citizens be allowed to travel and settle anywhere in the world without passports?) or is it just a ticket for non-U.S. citizens to wander across the southern border as they please?

Fine. Leave the doors of the nyt open 24/7. Eliminate the security personnel. No more sign-ins and no metal detectors. Allow all to enter the building and to circulate freely. Let them use the bathrooms. If they want to sleep, provide them a bed. Oh, and of course you’ll open your cafeteria to them and offer them a free meal.

This guy is a logical fruitcake. He says “by passing a simple background check”, which by definition IS NOT an open border. If you don’t pass the check, we have to have some means of still excluding you. Hence, no open borders. And I am not going to accept letting any drug runner, sexual offender, or murderer in, just because they want to be here.

ONE NY TIMES READER COMMENT...the top rated by readers

Altered Carbon
New York, NYJan. 16

This idea is truly insane. I’m a democrat and am aghast at this idea. Open borders would cause a human tsunami that would completely overwhelm our schools, hospitals, infrastructure, housing, social services, and seriously degrade the environment. NYC, LA, SF, and other large US cities are already dealing with record numbers of homeless due to housing shortages. The infrastructure in many US cities (hello NYC) can barely handle the people already here. The author tries to make the argument that just because someone was born in the US doesn’t mean that they are more deserving to live here than someone who was not. The author is essentially saying that the lottery of birth is not fair. Using that logic then someone born into a rich family is no more deserving to their family money and assets than someone born into a poor family. Sorry but life isn’t fair, and the world is seriously overpopulated with not enough resources to go around. That’s reality. If the democrats take up an open borders agenda then be ready for the reelection of Trump and a republican majority.

No wall.

No law.

No USA at all.

That’s the goal.

It is the same purpose as the Bush League Republicans in turning the USA into North Mexico.
