Government shutdown is no 'crisis'

This government shutdown is now longer than any in history. The media keep using the word “crisis.”

“Shutdown sows chaos, confusion and anxiety!” says the Washington Post. “Pain spreads widely.”

The New York Times headlined, it’s all “just too much!”

But wait. Looking around America, I see people going about their business – families eating in restaurants, employees going to work, children playing in playgrounds, etc. I have to ask: Where’s the crisis?

Pundits talk as if government is the most important part of America, but it isn’t.

We need some government, limited government. But most of life, the best of life, goes on without government, many of the best parts in spite of government.

Of course, the shutdown is a big deal to the 800,000 people who aren’t being paid. But they will get paid. Government workers always do – after shutdowns.

Columnist Paul Krugman calls this shutdown, “Trump’s big libertarian experiment.” But it’s not libertarian. Government’s excessive rules are still in effect, and eventually government workers will be paid for not working. That makes this a most un-libertarian experiment.

Point to be taken into consideration when contacting your "representative". I know very few of us have ACTUAL reps but you know what I mean.

Waiting 4 more days.

Then every non-essential can be laid off after 30 days of furlough.

What a great bargaining chip that’s going to be for Trump.

Build the wall or 500,000 bureaucrats get fired and all your SEIU dues go down the toilet.

They act like we really need these people.

The longer the shutdown just proves how much we don’t need these parasites. Most of these agencies have WAY too many employees.

For instance...

Does the IRS REALLY gives a shit about anybody. Are they being missed? They can all starve for all I care.

I am all in for trump and the Border wall, but at the same time I am concerned for the Border and Customs people and especially the Coast Guard and their families who live paycheck to paycheck. I hope Trump can do something to take care of them until they get their back pay.

I disagree with the OR.

Step 1) Fire 500,000 bureaucrats.

Step 2) Keep waiting for Chuck and Nancy to agree to the wall.

Chris Coons seemed spooked when constantly pleading to reopen government. I wonder if some of these politicians realize that a reduction in force just might be in the works and desperately do not want it to happen.

I believe Trump should take this opportunity to reduce government, perhaps let 15% or so of the 25% go. That would be masterful leadership and reform.

My favorite was Krugman suggesting the shutdown would result in contaminated food because the FDA wasn’t conducting inspections. Except the USDA, which does 80% of federal food inspections, is still doing so. And the food industry already has standards well in excess of government standards.

The shutdown should demonstrate just how little we need most of the federal government. But the news media won’t dare let anyone believe that.

Sent Nancy a response last night:

“Please shut down more often.”

“You infants have no interest in resolving the shut down.

Grow up and govern for the American people rather than those breaking the law to compete with America’s poor.”

Apparently, the President misses them. He just summoned 10s of thousands of IRS employees back to work.

One of our younger relatives had to fly back to the east coast for her second semester of college.

The flights took 2 extra hours than scheduled. She said that most of her flights on that route without the “horrible government shutdown took that long or longer.”

So far that has been the only terrible problem due to the shutdown with close to 40+ relatives.

Of course no relatives work for the federal government.

If we’re functioning WITHOUT them... who needed them to begin with?

I used to work with a girl with a huge salary-a huge office and fancy shmancy title!! There was never a two week period that she didn’t miss at least a couple days ...took off whenever she wanted to... arrived when she wanted to...left the office when she wanted to....went out to lunch and sometimes never returned... or certainly was late getting back.

When she left for some OTHER job the office worked just fine without replacing her.... who knew!

The 80-15-5 rule is in effect here.

  1. 5% of the government employees do 80% of the work.
  2. 15% do 15%.
  3. 80% do 5%.

They are inadvertently playing into Trump’s hands by declaring a “crisis” which can also be deemed a “National emergency”....
