Because of the shutdown, the SNAP office in Memphis is experiencing mayhem. Its been since 1978 since the natives of that city have rioted and long overdue. I predict this is going to be the race of professional victim’s next step.
Americans no longer share common values that make a reasonable social consensus possible. Without that consensus,the culture erodes.Think about it. Would you want an abortion loving, homosexual appeasing, politically correct agnostic in the fox hole next to you? Would you trust such a person? Would you sacrifice your life for his? If you answer no to any of those questions and concede that probably 35-40% of the population has those “values”, then realize that it might not be a violent civil war, but a reckoning and division is coming.

I wouldn’t really agree that the divide is between “the individual and the state”, the “state”, i.e. the nation-state, is what’s under assault, and what needs to be defended. The globalists would dissolve the nation-state in favor of unelected international bureaucracies like the EU, UN, etc., whereas patriots understand that it is only through a properly organized and limited nation-state that we can be free.
Can’t even really agree on that. Certain school districts prohibit the very teaching of the founding documents. I’ve known leftists in recent years that let it be known they hated them. I had a copy of the Declaration only office and have had coworkers literally sneer at it. To the author’s point.
