Kevin McCarthy, the House Republican leader, promised action after the latest racist remarks by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa).
Action will be taken, McCarthy said Sunday of King on CBS Face the Nation. Im having a serious conversation with Congressman Steve King on his future and role in this Republican Party."

“I will say Im tired of watching our side allow the Left to dictate the rules of engagement. Its time to call them out on their treachery with examples of their own teams comments that are far worse than ours.”
Right, this is an example of both Democrats and Republicans demanding an apology for something he didn’t say, in my estimation.
First, one has to suspend disbelief for the moment, and enertain the notion that in 2019 someone is going to interview with the New York Times and start espousing the virtues of the KKK? Really?
I know it’s not true, simply because by the fact that the usual suspects are condemning him, this is how their failure theater operates, I’ve seen this movie before. The rule #1 when dealing with snakes is never accept their premise at face value, it must be examined very carefully. Republicans are either very naive, or complicit after all this time.
Look what they did, for just ONE example, to Judge Kavanaugh. 24/7 dumpster fire, ramped up to eleventy. Complete BS.
Didn’t he admit to the use of the term “White Supremacy” though.
That was my takeaway from the video of him on the floor.
Even you and I know you can’t use that term. As you said, it’s just right out of the KKK handbook (essentially). In this day and age, you just can’t say that, and it was never a solid concept. “White Supremacy” means everyone else is inferior.
There are Blacks much smarter than I am in certain instances. That holds true for members of other races. I have been rated at above average intelligence, but I’m not genius.
I cringe at the use of the term “White Supremacy”.
Nothing good can come from it.
Talk about the discoveries made by people of that race, fine. Acting as if the race is superior than any other, big mistake.
The fruits of their works shall reveal them. Look we’ve done some incredible things. So have members of other races.
“said he wondered how white supremacy had become offensive.”
Another article said “white nationalism.” Could the media be lying about what he said?
We don’t what it was that he said.
He was talking; I suspect, in the very broad context of the Western Judeo-Christian heritage that our country was founded. From the Enlightenment, and the rest of it.
And everything is under attack now - in the schools, by radical Marxist professors. By everything, I mean just that - every thing. It’s not “shadowy groups”, they are right out in the open.
You are a “White Supremacist” if you mow your lawn, or adhere to or expect any sort of punctuality. Do you see where I’m going with this? Where does it end? Are other races not capable somehow of showing up for work on time, somehow? They’ve reached a tautology here. Am I expected to show up on time for the professor’s lecture explaining how punctuality is a tool of the patriarchy and heteronormative patterns of cis-oppression?
Does it concern you that I even know what all that bullshit word salad is supposed to mean? The fact that they are cramming this twaddle down everybody’s throat is bad enough, but we have squish politicians coming out of the wordwork falling over themselves to defend the indefensible. It is inexplicable.
I would infer, giving him the benefit of the doubt, that he was asking why is everything today branded as “White Supremacy”? Because if everything is racist, then nothing is. Christianity is not the only religion, but it is a good one, and I expect that many people, if they are honest at least, are thankful they live in a country with a Judeo-Christian heritage, even if they are not of that heritage. Yet it too, is under unprecedented attack, and poorly led by charlatans and imposters. Very sad state of affairs.
Individual rights, rule of law, equality under the law, property rights, a written constitution with a Bill if Rights, etc, these are not the default in human history. In fact, involuntary servitude is a big part of human history. The leftist knows every bit of this, and they want it all destroyed. Why? I dunno. Have to ask them.
If I took away the wrong impression from his comments, I accept it.
He still stated he used the term “White Supremacy” in there, IMO.
As I said, Byrd was a full blown KKK recruiter / leader. Not one Democrat asked him to resign.
King, not McCarthy...
Right.
I don’t understand why some FReepers are jumping on McCarthy instead of King...
Right, what was King thinking? I understand that racism against whites is a reality and needs to be adressed because its going to get worse. But you cant fight racism by saying racist things.
That's not the same as being misquoted. I think he was quoted accurately. It would make my day to find out that he was misquoted.
It is extremely easy to cherry pick a statement out of a larger comment, and in isolation, out of context...
It isn't just easy, it is practically guaranteed from the New York Times. King knows this. An old pro like King should NEVER have given the NYT exactly what they were looking for with that miserable quote. It can be read to mean that he learned in school to approve of the white supremacism and white nationalism in Western civilization. In other words, he approved of the Nazis. I am certain that is not what he meant, but it is a possible interpretation of what he said. An unbiased interviewer would have asked King to clarify his words, but the NYT does not do unbiased interviews.
At King's level of politics, you have to carefully watch every word that comes out of your mouth. You simply DO NOT hand rhetorical ammunition to your enemies with quotes that can easily be used against you. King knows that better than I do, yet it is exactly what he did.
I wonder if there is something wrong with him.
Support for black issues = OK.
Support for white issues = Racism.
King included the term White Nationalist with White Supremacist and said he condemned anyone using those terms that represented the Nazis killing 6 million Jews.
That is a slam on Trump, who said he was a White Nationalist.
Ref. comment #28 on this thread.
I’m White and I’m a Nationalist!
I was being understated, he denounced “White Supremacy” in no uncertain terms. I’ve no doubt he was misquoted and taken out of context. We live in a world today where American students are hectored that mowing lawns is “White Supremacy”. The whole things is nonsense, and Republicans are pretty much useless. So another day that ends in Y.
It sounds to me though, you haven’t read either the allegedly racist original statement nor his refutation. It’s everybody taking things at face value, and accepting a statement as fact, and citing that as further evidence as fact without question these days, that bothers me. A circular firing squad, as it were.
Notice we live in a world where someone can be “credibly” accused of gang rape 30 years ago with absolutely no proof or corroboration, and we’re just supposed to accept that, too. Grown adults, national television. Self described “thought leaders”. Near riots - wack jobs clawing and scratching on the bronze doors of SCOTUS
Humor me.
What specifically did Rep. King say? Do you know? I haven’t been able to find it. Everybody says he said something, but I don’t know what it is.
Good post. How is this the first time I’ve noticed you here? Must be a church mouse in another life :-)
GO AFTER THE DEMOCRATS, YOU DOPE! THET ARE THE RACISTS!
Congressional White Caucus says ...
Exactly - they are condemning a description by equating it with the actions that his words did not take...Fahrenheit 451 anyone?
All the appropriate hands will be wrung but that's about it.
The big problem is his inclusion of white supremacist in his statement. The meaning and implications of being a white supremacist have never been in doubt.
Steve King is one of the best we have
