It is doubtful that Labour will pass a no confidence vote. The Conservatives, even those who hate Theresa May are not going to vote to bring down the Government. Nor will the Democratic Unionist Party, which has had a Confidence and Supply agreement with the Tories, vote to force an election that Labour could win.
May is bad, but a Corbyn led Labour Government would be far worse.
“Labour set to call vote to topple Theresa Mays government “
Topple the hag.
Can you explain this in Yankee English?
I’ll give it a go:
The Leader of the opposition will use the repeated failure by May’s government to win the vote in the house (commons) on her brexit deal as an excuse to table a no confidence vote in the PM.
Effectively a coup to force a general election in which the leader of the opposition hopes the people will elect his cranky ass into office.
It usually results in a lame-duck administration for the rest of the term.
However Ms May is unpopular in the extreme so her own party MPs may vote with the opposition, against her,and remove her from both the party leadership and PM roles.
Because the vote was triggered by the opposition and not her own party a general election could/should be triggered.
Errr,yeah. Something like that.
“Theresa May” is Brit-speak for Paul Ryno.
Thanks NRx. May should have been dragged out of 10 Downing and lynched by an angry mob back when she called for unnecessary early elections.
So tell me again. Which party is more or less sane and which party is more or less the Brit equivalent of Chuckie and Nan?
As much as I love the Brits as people the country as a whole is one rolling Dunkirk.
She took office 13 July 2016.
I wonder how much she had to do with the dossier Intelligence operation against candidate Trump?
“Democracy always fails in the end.”
Everything of this Earth does.
Both parties are well to the left of Pelosi and Schumer.
In fact, the lack of a rightist party in the UK is one of their biggest problems.
“senior Labour figures accept they are unlikely to win a no-confidence vote”
“there will be insufficient time before Britains exit from the EU on 29 March to hold an election.”
“we must consider... campaigning for a second referendum as this is party policy., said a Labour MP
...So trying to get a second referendum on Brexit is really what they are after, or a “Brexit” in name only, where the UK cannot sign their own trade deals (permanent customs union with the EU).
“Which party is more or less sane”
That would be the Tory (Conservative Party). They are like the old Blue Dog Democrats.
The Labour Party are the Socialist/Communists. Their leader is to the Left of Bernie Sanders.
Yeap, Beaubo summed it up perfectly.
Even the House of Lords is sliding down the rabbit hole.
“Democracy always fails in the end. Always.”
True. In fact, Karl Marx considered Democracy as the first stepping stone on the path to Communism. In order to submit to majority rule, individuals must first abandon their sense of liberty, then there is no rule they will not submit to.
Correct cause, wrong leader.
Kick her out Great Britain!
Jeremy Corbin as PM? England has gone nuts if this happens. Time for Scotland, Wales, Corning and Northern Ireland to secede while the going’s good.
