Ditos on Larry Carlton on Dont Take Me Alive and Kid Charlemagne.
“The Royal Scam” is often called their “guitar album” as the great Larry carlton played lead and arranged half the tracks on that album.
Although “Kid” is a great track and lead guitar, Dont Take Me Alive will always be my top fav of that album - it was the first track I heard and who I was with at that moment (my late wife who passed just 2 years later).
“I dont know how this guy became an expert on nuclear weapons.”
Missile delivery systems, not nukes. He’s self taught.
The most talented guitarist to play on a Steely Dan album was Denny Dias.
My vote for most talented on a psuedo-SD album is Drew Zingg on Fagen’s “Rock and Soul” album - specifically “Pretzel Logic” with Michael McDonald.
Poor quality...but you’ll get the gist.
My top SD recorded track and easily THE best version of “Pretzel Logic” thanks to Drew Zingg’s amazing guitar.

Another smart guy......LOL!
SD, always great jams! Old fave from the ‘70s!
Can’t Buy A Thrill is one of the best albums of all time.
As The Dan of Steel goes, I’m rather partial to The Royal Scam.
“I wouldnt call Steely Dan a rock n roll band.”
I have to agree with you...not rock & roll...but they were at the top as my most favorite band ever...right up there with Chicago.
But, what do I know, I liked Hall & Oates.
They were really jazz musicians.
Probably my all-time favorite guitarist.
Daryl Hall is one hell of a musician.
Thats my favorite from that album too, one of my all-time favorite SD songs, referring to Dont Take Me Alive. I love the passive aggressiveness of that song. I also like Gaucho, the title song. I love Donald Fagens solo stuff, Nightfly, Kamakiriad. Love Snowbound and Tomorrows Girls, those last two songs have cool videos to them, you can see them on YT.
