He’s smart, and generally low-key. He’s been a good, personable guy when I have met him, and has a good reputation. He was appointed to the 5th Circuit by Trump and confirmed with 53 votes—only a few more than Don Willett, who was confirmed to the 5th Circuit the day before.
He’s generally very conservative, but one sticking point is he stridently believes the 14th Amendment guarantees birthright citizenship, including for the children of illegal immigrants. I don’t think that makes much difference, though—I would be shocked if the Supreme Court ever held otherwise, regardless of who holds Thomas’s seat.
