Democracy? France announces new measures to curb yellow vest protests
Voice of Europe ^ | 1/8/19

Following sustained anti-government protests the French government has announced plans to strictly control what it calls ‘unsanctioned’ protests. Wearing masks on demonstrations will also be prohibited.

Speaking on French TV channel TF1, Prime Minister Philippe said the government would support a “new law punishing those who do not respect the requirement to declare [protests], those who take part in unauthorised demonstrations and those who arrive at demonstrations wearing face masks”.

Protest leaders have begun to be arrested. A truck driver, Eric Drouet, was arrested last week for organising an ‘unsanctioned’ protest.

Some politicians want to go further. Laurent Wauquiez, leader of the Republican party, tweeted that the move was not enough because it would not take “immediate effect”.

He said his party had previously proposed a state of emergency, adding: “Why not listen to us, at the risk of seeing the situation worsen Saturday after Saturday?”

French President Emmanuel Macron is deeply unpopular with 75% of voters disapproving of his Presidency.

Macron, Merkel, and May are all in the teens or low twenties approval. Globalism is unwelcome on both sides of the Atlantic.

This will not work out well for Macron.

I wonder about this whole yellow-vest thing. I’m not sure that these are all Reagan conservatives waving their copies of Hayek in the air. I fear that many may be members of the FSA who are angry that the FS is going away.

Interesting times, anyway.

Well then I guess they’re going to go into the Muslim No-Go Zones, that’s where all the guns are.

Seems to me that this is in violation of their own constitution. Such as it is.

Hate to say it BUT..., I agree that wearing masks of any sort to a “Demonstration” which becomes a RIOT should be cause for a write up at a minimum! Look at our own growing “ANTIFA THUGS” rioting here at home with ski masks, etc. on!

Funny, I don't remember that being a problem when the Islamofascists riot in France.

I think it should be open season on anyone wearing a mask while committing violence. No daily or possession limit.

So the carrot of delaying the taxes didn’t work. Now comes the stick.

Heard some on a radio show that the movement has been hijacked by a very anti Semitic org. But who knows? But I’m skeptical of all Euroweenies.

More oppression won’t work. But totalitarian freaks never learn.

For that matter liberals never learn. That might be their defining characteristic. They never learn.

That's standard BS all over Europe. Anyone who doesn't love the EU and insist that nations are obsolete will sooner or later be called an anti-semite or an antisemitic organization.

Since being antisemitic is illegal in nearly all of the EU, all legal protections for the individual are brushed aside and the powers that be can arrest the person they say is antisemitic without any evidence of any antisemitic behavior or statements.

That crap is the government putting out their excuse for shooting protesters in advance.
