Tuesday is a historic day in Florida. Under an amendment passed by the voters in November, as many as 1.4 million felons are regaining the right to vote. The referendum overturned a 150-year-old law that permanently disenfranchised people with felony convictions.
Before the change, people who served their time could apply for clemency to a board headed by the governor. But the cumbersome process and a multiyear backlog meant that only a small percentage applied.
As a result, more than 10 percent of Florida's adult population was not eligible to vote. Desmond Meade who helped organize the referendum campaign says that changed Nov. 6. "We had over 5.1 million voters that voted yes on Amendment 4," he says. "Not one of those votes was based on hate. Not one of those votes was based on fear, but rather votes of love."

Legalized voter fraud in action.
Bye-bye to Republican control of Florida, with the next election!
Where is the voter fraud in this new law?
Bye bye Florida 2020, bye bye Republican control of anything ever again.
Too late Florida, Hillary already lost. Should have made a special felon-vote date and made those results apply to the 2016 election so she could finally be installed as President.
Did Scott sign this? Why?
“Did Scott sign this? Why?”
It was signed by the voters.
A brief conversation with just one of his inmate friends indicated that was true.
They have cable TV and access to everything except internet (seriously controlled access to everything, but the cable is in cell TV).
IMO, if you pay the penalty that satisfies the law, it was never a right if it can be taken by the state .... let 'em vote.
Maybe we should talk to some of these returnees and ASK them what they think .... eh?
Its disenfranchisement of non-felons, by diluting their vote by felons. Felons should lose certain rights.
Nope, it was a voter referendum.
Those exit polls should be interesting.
“Felons should lose certain rights.”
Is that in the U.S. Constitution?
Do the People of Florida have the States’ Right to end the prohibition of felons voting?
“... If youre not willing to follow the law, then you should not have a role in making the law for everyone else, which is what you do when you vote either directly (in the case of a referendum or ballot initiative) or indirectly (by choosing lawmakers and law enforcers)...
Hey Kids!
That's the money line of this article.
More than ten percent of the people in Florida are Felons.
I suspect the politically-engaged ex-felon is more conservative, all other things being equal. Like legal immigrants are against illegal immigration. Politically-minded Ex-felon’s have done their time, and many now would be for law-breakers to face the justice that they paid.
Should have their 2A rights restored as well if the crime wasn’t gun-related.
Yes.
“Bye-bye to Republican control of Florida, with the next election.”
Forever. :(
“Florida Man” gets to control ALL of Florida’s new laws.
