New York City will begin guaranteeing comprehensive health care to every single resident regardless of someone's ability to pay or immigration status, an unprecedented plan that will protect the more than half a million New Yorkers currently using the ER as a primary provider, Mayor de Blasio said Tuesday.

It's not health insurance, his spokesman clarified after the surprise announcement on MSNBC.

"This is the city paying for direct comprehensive care (not just ERs) for people who can't afford it, or can't get comprehensive Medicaid -- including 300,000 undocumented New Yorkers," spokesman Eric Phillips tweeted.

Politico reported the mayor said the cost would be $100 million. It's not clear when it will be implemented.

What do you have to do to “establish” residency in NYC or CA?

You must be able to say the word 'the'. Or sign it. Or write it. Or think it.

Bloomberg and D'blasio and Cortazio are in a race to one up each other on the perks of neo-Marxist socialism.

Funny though, being out done by a bartender from Yorktown.

“FYI, most of NYS’s counties are red.”

I wish y’all could get those dingbats in NYC to fall in line.

including 300,000 undocumented New Yorkers

If they're undocumented, how does know there are 300,000 of them?

“Isn’t it redundant when same people are already covered under NY Medicaid?”

He's talking about covering illegals, who can't get Medicaid.

Last we saw DeBasio he was standing on Montauk Point commanding the tides, and they obeyed him.

Gosh - if it’s only gonna cost them $333 a person to pay for that, maybe they should consider charging the ones getting all that service $28 a month for some really good health insurance...and see how far that takes them.....Looks like DeBlahBlah learned the same math as that Ocasio idiot.

Looks like they got the same people who figured the cost of the California “Bullet Train”.

Believe or not but NYC once had a network of comprehensive municipal hospitals that provided excellent care to the poor.

I beleive it. There was a time when uber rich liberals in place like NYC would actually use their own money to do useful things for the public good. Today such people lobby congress to use our money to do things that will make them feel less guilty as they fly from party to party on their private jets.

The typical American (in name only) leftist run city/sh*thole is forever ruined and in many cases the rest of the state dies on the vine.

Are you saying that $167 per person might not cover the cost? Surely deblasio hasn’t made a mathematical mistake...//s//

The ER wasn’t designed as a primary care provider. With 600,000 people that they will now encourage to use the ER more doctors, nurses and support people will have to be hired and more diagnostic equipment will have to be purchased. Unfortunately (or fortunately) DiBlowsio will no longer be in office when the real costs hit the city.

Many of the smaller hospitals in my neighborhood have gone bankrupt and had to close because of the illegals using their ER as a "family doctor", clogging up the ERs in the area with colds, cuts, etc. They know they can't be turned away due to national origin, so they come and sit in the ER for the littlest things, while NYC citizens have to wait hours for real medical problems. No one thinks about this effect the illegal criminal invaders have had: what if a NYC citizen had a heart attack or other time-important medical emergency and DIED because the EMTs had to travel farther to find a hospital that was still open? There are many such consequences of allowing the illegal criminal invaders to stay, such as terribly overcrowded classrooms stuffed with students who need all kinds of special services. Morons like DumblASSio and Occasional Cortex don't stop to really parse out all the consequences down the line of their stupid commie policies.

The "City" can only pay with money it has confiscated from taxpayers. Nothing is "free". Money must come from some source.

Why anyone wanted to take a child to the ER for something like vomiting once, is beyond me.

Fine as long as NYC is paying for it. Try to make me pay for it and they can go to hell.
