I bet the Kalifornia Pols are looking at this thinking they can do the same thing with the USA. Well, in truth, The Peoples Republik of Kalifornia is already another country in most the ways that count. Patriarch Kirill will have to answer to God why he is subjugating his Church to Putin. Bulgaria, Georgia, Cyprus, Greece, Poland, Albania, Czech, Romania, Serbia, Romania, Moscow, Alexandria, Antioch and Constantinople have Autocephalous churches, but Ukraine with more than 40 million people should not be independent?

Though to clarify, what is happening within the Orthodox Church has historical origins going further back than USSR. And not all Orthodox believers see eye to eye on the issue.
I didn’t realize this was an uber religious thread. I try to stay out of them because I really don’t like talking about religion. My point of view was strictly political which is what this forum used to be all about.
Politics and religion is like oil and water IMHO.
Well in Russia and the former Soviet space it’s crucial to understand the interactions between both. (Politics and Religion.) Putin has made it a point to combine the two on his corrupted terms and is now reaping the consequences. Sorry for sounding harsh, but my patience on these boards wear thin re: Russia/Putin. Sooo much misinformation about Russia out there among conservatives and the Democrat/Mueller garbage doesn’t help.

Agreed. Sorry. My experiences of Russia were recent. (I was barely born when USSR collapsed.) And you're right about California. It is resembling all the bad aspects of (modern) Russia, and verging on outright Soviet-era status in some areas. Very sad. But hope is not lost, change and some great leaders may yet emerge...

Technically no schism has been caused - and, ironically, two schisms may be healed by this.
