The United States and Israel officially quit the U.N.s educational, scientific and cultural agency at the stroke of midnight, the culmination of a process triggered more than a year ago amid concerns that the organization fosters anti-Israel bias.
The withdrawal is mainly procedural yet serves a new blow to UNESCO, co-founded by the U.S. after World War II to foster peace.
The Trump administration filed its notice to withdraw in October 2017 and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu followed suit.
The Paris-based organization has been denounced by its critics as a crucible for anti-Israel bias: blasted for criticizing Israels occupation of east Jerusalem, naming ancient Jewish sites as Palestinian heritage sites and granting full membership to Palestine in 2011.

Good. But it looks like Netanyahu is in some political trouble any word on his situation and who is looking to succeed him?!
Thanks Olog-hai.
In 1984, the United States withheld its contributions and withdrew from the organization in protest, followed by the United Kingdom in 1985. (Wikipedia)
quit the UN and move it out of the US.
The U.N, has got to go.
In the late 1980s a friend and fellow musician wrote a corny song with a theme something like ... we love the world.
The song was selected by UNESCO to be part of a concert series that was to be performed in several countries. 3 of us were to be paid ridiculous money to go on this tour and perform this one song at each stop along with other musical groups who had written corny songs.
All expenses paid, it was to be like a holiday abroad traveling with other musicians wasting money that could have provided other tangible services to people in need.
The program manager was the son of some dignitary who was being paid for nothing more than a traveling party.
We turned the offer down but the waste of donated money happened without us.
Glad to see we are pulling support for this near useless organization.
Nah we shouldn’t quit since we have a veto. Keep it where it is. But, cut the number of diplomatic visas. Each country gets maybe 3 total. One for the UN ambassador, one for the junior ambassador, and one for an assistant. If they need more staff to answer phones or file papers, they can hire people from the local labor pool. They want all these side-programs like UNESCO and UNRWA, hire local labor.
