If there was a way to invent televised events 2000 years ago we’d probably be confused, horrified, shocked and uncomfortable at a lot of it.

You can’t pretend all times are the same. They are not.

So typical of liberal hand wringing, chin stroking over-analysis.

Here’s an idea: just don’t watch it, or enjoy it like we do on TCM almost every night.

And then there is the 'Stones with cigarette smoking and drinking of cactus juice.

And Betty with her low cut outfit.

That isn't good enough for liberals. We must atone for our past transgressions.

I often wonder if people in Cambodia laughed and mocked the Khmer Rouge before they started murdering everyone.

"broadly played"

Quite the euphemism.

It’s just the same attitude as pulling down confederate statutes. Right out of 1984; re-write or delete history.

Bottom line: Political correctness is willful self censorship and self delusion. Art in any form cannot be politically correct. Those that restrict their thinking have no insight.

I never get confused watching The Flinstones. That Barney Rubble - what an actor!

Dittos from our house.

Classic movies are recorded and kept at our house, as all national treasures should be.

Times were All American then, when we made this country hum with vibrancy.

The Left FEARS the survival of those virtues and ethics of yesterday, when men were men and women were women, and children were not running the household because their moms were careening away from home ... oops...I mean “careering away” from home.

Yes, today’s modern cinema can be used as a hallmark of virtue and dignity.

Which is why I cling to my DVDs. I can see the day where because of political pressure or threats of a boycott certain movies and shows like the Chan films will be made unavailable for streaming. Down the memory hole they go, by way of the digital prison.

Re: “What do we say when Mammy (Hattie McDaniel) acts like a happy slave who adores her masters?”

Well, if there is a bright side, Mammy probably had a better standard of living than 95% of the women in Africa.

Reminds me of Rush’s Discovery passage at the beginning of 2112.

Also - “Brown Sugar”

So while “Birth of a Nation,” the groundbreaking 1915 film widely regarded as one of the most corrosively racist ever made,

Perhaps so regarded by many who have never watched it, but who only get their opinions from academics and the main stream media.

But, but, but liberals of the time were telling us this is art and free speech for our pluralistic open society. Edgy sometimes it was called.

Sounds like the libs need censors to monitor the making of the new movies and so called entertainment.

Maybe we need to play endless hours of Woodstock footage to make these modern libs feel ashamed. I am sure there was quite a bit of non consent and underage there. Plus ruining the environment.
